How to Pair S Pen with Galaxy Tab S8

How to Pair S Pen with Galaxy Tab S8

March 18, 2022 by Andrew Myrick Leave a Comment

One of the biggest reasons why you might want to consider picking up the Galaxy Tab S8 for yourself is because Samsung actually includes the S Pen in the box. This is something that we don’t see very frequently from other tablet makers, as they usually force you to purchase a stylus separately.

But there may be times where you need to replace the S Pen, or just end up getting something like the S Pen Pro. In order to make everything work as advertised, you’ll need to pair S Pen with Galaxy Tab S8.

Pair S Pen with Galaxy Tab S8

Because Samsung’s S Pen uses Bluetooth for connectivity, there’s a constant low-energy signal being projected. This makes it easy for your S Pen and Galaxy Tab S8 to communicate, as you can be notified if you leave your S Pen behind. But it also can cause a bit of confusion as there’s no dedicated pairing button to be found on the S Pen, so you might not know how to pair it.

Thankfully, Samsung has made the pairing process extremely easy. If you look at the back of your Galaxy Tab S8, you’ll see the soft-textured matte finish of the aluminum build. But right below the rear-camera module, there’s a glass cutout, and this is the key if you want to pair S Pen with Galaxy Tab S8.

With your new S Pen in hand, just place the flat side of the stylus onto the glass window on the back of your Galaxy Tab S8. Samsung notes that if you have the Galaxy Tab S6, you’ll need to make sure that the pen point is facing away from the cameras. And those with the Galaxy Tab S7 or Tab S8 will want to place their S Pen with the pen tip facing towards the cameras.

If everything works as expected, the two devices should pair instantly, and a little animation will appear on your display. This will let you know that your S Pen has been paired correctly, so you can detach it and start drawing or writing on your tablet.

S Pen Is Not Pairing

When everything works as advertised, the S Pen and Galaxy Tab S8 are an incredible combination. Unfortunately, there might be times where the S Pen just won’t pair, or even charge, when placed on the back glass window. Thankfully, Samsung has some steps we can take to try and get things back in working order.

  1. Open the Settings app on your Galaxy Tab S8.
  2. Scroll down and tap Advanced Features in the right side-bar.
  3. On the left, tap S Pen.
  4. Select Air Actions at the top of the page.
  5. In the top right corner, tap the three vertical dots.
  6. From the drop-down, tap Reset S Pen.

The process for resetting your S Pen will take a few moments, and doing so will revert all of your settings to their defaults. This means that after your S Pen has been successfully paired to your tablet, you’ll need to go through and customize the various gestures and Air Actions that you potentially changed.
