How to Set Homepage in Chrome for Android

How to Set Homepage in Chrome for Android

By Mitch Bartlett 13 Comments

You can save an extra step in Chrome for Android by setting a Homepage. We’ll show you how it’s done in this tutorial.

Newer Versions

  1. Open the Chrome app.
  2. Select the “Menu” Menu icon icon located at the upper-right corner.
  3. Choose “Settings“.
  4. Select “Home page“.
  5. Ensure that Home page is turned “On“. Tap “Open this page“, then type the URL you would like to set as your home page.

Older Versions

  1. Type the URL to the page you wish to set as your homepage in the address bar, then tap “Go” on the keyboard.
  2. Press the “Menu” button.
  3. Select the “Add to Home screen” option.
  4. Type a desired title, then tap “Add“.

Now you will have an icon added to your Homescreen that you can use anytime to open Chrome directly to the desired website.Chrome for Android shortcut icons

Repeat these steps for any other home screen icons you wish to create.

Thank you for getting straight to the point with your instructions. It worked flawlessly.

That’s because that is not what this post is about. You can find those instructions elsewhere on the site though.

For anybody having the issue of not finding the add to homescreen button in chrome; Save the desired site to your bookmarks (click the start icon on the top right when at the page). After that, open a new tab, select your bookmarks page. Long press the bookmark that you want to add to your homescreen, and select “add to homescreen”.

    Hope this helps!

No options as you described. Chrome opens on wrong page.
Sorry for Google, switching browsers to something friendly and less minimalistic.

Same thing on my tablet. I went with option two. Still doesn’t work when opening a new tab when Chrome is already open.

    P. S. Even though I have the latest Chrome version (dated August 3, 2016) ,I tried the instructions you gave for the ‘Older Versions’ and it worked, putting the home page I selected as a bookmark icon on my ‘New Tab’ page. Apparently, there is no ‘Homepage’ icon on the browser menu bar for Chrome on the Nexus 7.
