Enable Home Button in Google Chrome

By Mitch Bartlett 6 Comments

Some people are asking how the heck they get back to Home when using the Google Chrome browser. It’s not on the toolbar by default. You can enable it within the settings on Windows, Linux, Chrome OS and MacOS versions with these steps.

  1. Select the “Menu”  button in the upper-right portion of the window, then select “Settings“.
  2. Toggle the “Show home button” setting. When enabled, you can see the settings for “New Tab page” and the option to open a specific website when the “Home” icon is selected.

You have successfully enabled the Home button in Google Chrome. It will be located to the left of the Address Bar.

FAQ

Is there a way to add a home button to Google Chrome on Android or iOS?

Not at the moment. However, you can make an icon that opens Chrome directly to a specific web site.

Thanks. I just checked from my PC and the option to enable home is still there. I don’t know about tablets or phones. I really wish it was automatically enabled instead of disabled by default. I wonder if it has to do with all the home settings that get automatically changed sometimes when you log into your account in Chrome from different institutions. I remember that I would end up with multiple home pages due to internal settings.

Unable to get the “show home” button to enable in chrome on Galaxy Note 10. I know how to enable the home icon and it works on one phone, but the other will not show. Google is updated. Can not seem to find this problem on any forums.

No. I asked about the home button in Chrome for an iOS device, but this only addresses Mac OS
