How to Change the Size and Style of Your Android App Icons

How to Change the Size and Style of Your Android App Icons

June 15, 2021 by Judy Sanhz Leave a Comment

When you first get your Android device, one of the first things you do is customize it. You add your favorite apps and change all sorts of things. But after a while, what you changed gets boring, and it’s time for another change. One of the things you may want to change is the icons. Maybe you want to make the icons bigger or smaller or make them look different.

To give your app icons a different look, you’ll need to install a third-party app, but if you like what you see, it’s worth installing. The following apps that’ll help give your phone a new look are free, so if you’re not happy with what you see, you can always uninstall the app.

Change the Icon Size and Shape of any App with Nova Launcher

You can do sorts of things with Nova Launcher, and that includes changing the appearance of your icons. Once you’ve downloaded the app, go to Nova settings. You can access the settings through the app icon that’ll say Settings. Once you’re in, go to Home screen, followed by Icon Layout.

In Icon Layout, you can choose to do all sorts of things to the icon apps. For example, by using the slider, you can change the size of the app icon. Under the label section, you’ll see another slider that will allow you to change the size of the text under the app. If you tap on the dropdown menu under the Font option, you can change the style of the text; for example, you can choose from Normal, Medium, Condensed, and light.

The color option will let you change the color of the text. You can also check or not the box to give the text some shadow or Single Line.  Nova also allows you to decide how many app icons you want per row. You can do this by going to Settings > Home Screen > Desktop Grid. Here you’ll need to slide the number on the side to choose how many apps you’ll see per row. The numbers at the bottom will let you change the number of rows.

As you make the changes to the rows and icons, you’ll see what it’ll look like in real-time. When you’re finished, don’t forget to tap on the Done button at the bottom right.

Integrated Icon Themes for Samsung Devices

If you have a Samsung device, you can change the icon apps without installing a third-party app. Go to Settings, followed by themes.

At the bottom, tap on the Icon option, and you’ll see a large variety of icon styles. Some will be free while you’ll need to pay for others.

Ume Icon Changer

To give your app icons a complete makeover, you might want to try the Ume Icon Changer. What the app does is that it changes the app icon to the picture you add. The app already comes with some default images, but it also gives you the option to add your own images. When you first open the app, choose an app whose icon you want to change.

The new icon image can be any of the images you see. You can choose from categories such as Nature, Space, Technology, and Sports. To add an image from your device’s gallery, tap on the Gallery option and choose if you want to take a picture or upload one from your device’s gallery. You can also change the shape of the app icon. The options to choose from are:

  • Circle
  • Square
  • RoundSquare
  • Squircle
  • Teardrop

The app will show a preview of what your new app icon will look like in real-time. You can also change the name of the app icon. Tap on the pencil icon to the right of the current name and give it a new name. When you’re happy with how the app icon looks, tap on the OK button at the top right.

In the end, you see the option to add your new app icon automatically. But, by dragging it out of its box, you can place it where you want manually.

Conclusion

Giving your app icons a new look is always welcomed. By doing so, you can give your Android device your own personal touch. With Android, there are options to completely change the icon’s look or only change them slightly. What look will you be giving your app icons?
