Fix Safari YouTube Black Screen

Fix Safari YouTube Black Screen

By Mona 2 Comments

The Safari browser is well known as the signature internet access engine of Apple devices. Recently, many users of Safari have experienced an inability to load videos on YouTube, with a black screen appearing instead of their video. This issue is easily traceable to the Safari browser itself, as people have been able to access YouTube using Google Chrome or other internet engines. Here is how you can ensure that the black screen on YouTube doesn’t appear again on your computer while you’re using Safari.

The black screen may be appearing on YouTube because of other things on your computer, such as your YouTube account or other applications you have downloaded. If you can determine that Safari still works when you have changed accounts, uninstalled software, etc., you may be able to rectify the problem and go on to access YouTube. There are a few ways that you can test these possibilities diagnostically:

Account Based Causes

This would suggest that the black screen on YouTube is appearing because of problems associated with your Google account. To test this, sign out of your Google account. Once you have done this, go back to Youtube as a guest/ using a guest account on Safari. Click on a video; if YouTube is working properly, then this means that the problem that caused the Black Screen was caused by your Google Account. Some hypothetical roots of these causes could include browser/ ip address verification or other Google imposed obstacles.

Software Based Problems

These problems stem from difficulties caused by conflicting software on your computer. This is very likely to happen with regards to other tasks that your computer is supposed to accomplish, as many applications take up excessive space or running these applications interferes with the workings of other computer functions. This would be difficult to test, as you probably aren’t comfortable with randomly deleting applications off of your computer to simply test why YouTube isn’t working on Safari. However, if you are willing to uninstall applications, it would be possible to determine if interfering software is causing the problems with the YouTube black screen. This option requires you to select applications or plugins on Safari and uninstall them. If the black screen clears up after a certain application is uninstalled, then you’ve found the problem.

Wired Device Based Problems

It may also be possible that devices connected to your computer through wires into ports on your computer may be the problem. To fix this kind of issue, try running YouTube on Safari while unplugging different cables that you have connected to your internet device. This would include Ethernet cables and USB ports, among other wires. If you are now able to use YouTube on the Safari browser, you’ve found the problem at hand.

Smaller YouTube Videos Solution

This is important; there is a direct solution for this problem with regards to smaller YouTube videos. It’s possible to fix the black screen only on YouTube videos that are 480p or smaller. When you’re on Safari, go to preferences and then the privacy tab. Once you’re there, click on cookies and then go to the details. Cookies is a word that refers to your browser history. Once you are here on Safari, there will be a list of all of your internet searches from after the last time you cleared your internet search history. Selecting all of the websites searched and then removing them will clear your browser history. This will, for some reason, allow you to once again be able to watch YouTube videos that are under 480p in size.

Safari, the custom internet browser of Apple, is not a Google product or service. As such, it is highly probable that there could be issues when attempting to use Google services on it. This often means that, while the program itself may not always work directly and in its most easily conceivable form, there’s usually a solution to the problem. Hopefully now you can use YouTube on your Safari browser without any interruptions.
