Enable This PC Icon on Desktop for All Windows 10 Users

Enable This PC Icon on Desktop for All Windows 10 Users

Posted on January 2, 2019 by Judy Sanhz 2 Comments

You may already have other things on your Windows 10 computer that’s not working correctly, but the This PC icon (formerly known as “My Computer) can’t be one of them. The This PC icon makes finding your files easier, so it’s of no surprise you’ll always need instant access.

The reason you may not be able to find it is that it could be under the new name: This PC. The name may be different, but they serve the same purpose.

How to Recover the This PC Icon

To recover the This PC icon, you’ll need to dig into your computer’s settings. Click on the Windows Start menu, followed by the Settings cogwheel. Once you’re in Settings, click on the Personalization option.

When you enter personalization, you’ll automatically be in the Background option. Click on the Themes option on the left side of the window and scroll down to the Related Settings option. The Desktop icon setting option (the one you need to click on) will be the first one on the list.

When you click on Desktop icon settings, a new window will appear. At the very top, you’ll see the Desktop Icons option and below, all the options you can click on.

If you want to add any other icons to your desktop while you’re here, go for it. When you’re done, the PC icon will appear on your desktop. In my case, it was placed at the bottom left-hand corner, if that also happens to you, click on it and drag and drop it where you want it to go.

Don’t forget that you can also access This PC by searching for it in the Cortana search bar. If not, you can also access it through the File Explorer, the PC option will be one of the few ones on top.

Conclusion

The PC option makes getting to your files a lot easier. So, whenever it goes missing, it’s understandable that you start to panic. As you can see, getting back the icon is beginner-friendly and quick too.
