Samsung Galaxy Tab 2: How to Perform Hard Reset

If you want to sell or give away your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, or if you’re having issues with it locking up, then you may want to perform a hard reset on the device to set it back to default settings.

Hard resetting your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is a lot like hard resetting the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, however if you want to reset the device using the operating system then the steps will be different.

This guide applies to both the 7 inch model (7.0 version) and the 10 inch model (10.1 version).

**Note** Make sure to backup any files on your device as well as your SD Card that you intend to keep. The hard reset will wipe all files off of the internal memory, as well as the decryption key on the SD Card which may make existing files unreadable.

Hard Reset Using the Operating System

If you still have access to the Operating System, I would try these steps first since they are a little bit easier than the hardware reset steps.

1. Navigate to Settings either from the Apps menu, or just by simply pressing on the time to bring up the notifications menu.

2. Scroll down to the Personal group and press on Back Up and Restore.

3. Press the Factory Data Reset option.

4. It will bring up a screen showing all of the accounts synced on the device, press the Reset Device button at the bottom.

5. You’ll see the final verification screen, press the Delete All button.

6. The device will restart and boot into the recovery mode to finish the process. You’ll see the Android logo for a few moments, and it will restart again. When this is complete, you’ll be back to the Welcome screen to setup the device.

Hard Reset Using the Hardware Method

If you can’t get into the Operating System at all, then you can perform a hard reset using only the hardware.

1. With the device turned off, hold the Volume Up button and press the Power button.

2. Continue to hold the Volume Up button and you’ll see the recovery screen appear after you see the Samsung Logo.

3. Use volume up and down to navigate to Wipe Data / Factory Reset and press the Power button to confirm.

4. Use volume up and down to navigate to Yes and press the Power button to confirm.

5. Use volume up and down to navigate to Reboot System Now and press the Power button to confirm.

6. The device will restart and boot into the recovery mode to finish the process. You’ll see the Android logo for a few moments, and it will restart again. When this is complete, you’ll be back to the Welcome screen to setup the device.

This galaxy was bought 2 months ago. From the beginning it the screen would fade to white in the middle of any work/game I was doing. I could turn off at that point and bring back up but as of yesterday it will not do anything. Before this sometimes I could tilt it or move around and it might come back up for a few seconds. Very frustrated. If it came on you could hear some sounds but absolutely no screen. I would greatly appreciate any advice / help you can give. My first android.

    I have a Samsung GAlaxy Tab 2 7″.
The previous charger got broken and in the mean time the tablet has been off for over 4 weeks. We have connected the new charger but although the tablet has charged 100% we cannot get past the flashing samsung logo. Does anyone know what the problem is and how to turn it back on?

i just bought my Samsung tablet not even 2 months ago and yesterday it died on me so i charged and it turned off i thought it was because it had no battery life yet so i left it alone 2 hours later i try to turn it on and all i get is the battery logo every like 1 min when its on the charger, when its off the charger it stays black, i am very afraid that i spent 170 dollars on something that is now useless, i need help because i have tried the hard reset but all it gives me is the battery logo and then it fades to black,
I have the same problem as above comment, is there a way to resolve thuis.
    Greetings Pim.

My Samsung galaxy Tab2 was bought on St. Louis M.O. it was brought here in the Philippines, I reset it, then gave it back to my mother, she brought it back in St. louis.. unfortunately she forgot the lock pattern so she was ask to log in with her google account, which i set up for her, problem is the Tablet wont connect to any wifi network in St.louis, we cant configure the settings since we cant access the Tablet.. is there anything i can do? (I wish not to delete files & data set up on that tablet) but if i have to, would hard reset do the trick so she can use her tablet again? her device was registered on samsung anyway….

Still not working. My tablet may be infected and won’t/can’t turn on, and I can’t access it from a computer. Any suggestions?

(It may be because either of the two games:

    Absolute RC Plane Sim

Grand Theft Auto III 10-ANNIVERSARY EDITION (an .apk file downloaded from the Internet))
