A good cup of coffee is central to the start of many people’s days. It can also be a welcome pick-me-up part way through a long workday. No matter how much coffee you have a day, or how often you have it, convenience is an important factor. Having to wait for your coffee is the worst part, but smart technology can help.
With the addition of technology to the coffee maker you can get faster heating times, or the ability to program schedules to have your coffee ready to go when you are. You can also choose machines that can service different size cups or different types of coffee. Not everyone will have the same needs though, so it’s important to get a machine that is right for you.
To help you find the right choice for you, we’ve drawn up our list of the best smart coffee makers in 2022.

Key Features
- Configurable water reservoir location
- MultiStream technology
- Maintenance reminders
Specifications
- Cup sizes: 6, 8, 10, 12 oz
- Reservoir capacity: 66 oz
- Tallest supported mug: 7-inch
The Keurig K-Supreme Coffee Maker Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Brewer can brew coffee in 6, 8, 10, or 12 oz units. It comes in a slim form factor, with a removable 66 oz water reservoir on the side, however, if this takes up too much space, you can choose to move the reservoir to the back, though it will be harder to access. MultiStream technology ups the number of water streams into the K-cup from one to five, for a more even saturation, and stronger flavour and smell.
The maintenance reminders help to keep your machine operating at peak efficiency by reminding you to descale it every 250 cups. If you’re a fan of making your own blends, you can use the “my k-cup universal reusable coffee filter” to be able to make custom brews. Users have reported that the reservoir can be loose as it has no clip at the top. It also doesn’t work with eco-friendly pods.
- Compatible with the “my k-cup universal reusable coffee filter” for custom brews
- Slim design
- Removable water reservoir
- Weakly attached water reservoir
- The white model has a plastic finish
- Doesn’t work with the eco-friendly pods

Key Features
- Single cup watertank
- Excellent colour options
- Integrated cord storage
Specifications
- Cup sizes: 6 – 12 oz
- Reservoir capacity: up to 12 oz
- Tallest supported mug: 7-inch
The Keurig K-Mini Coffee Maker is designed to make exactly one cup of coffee at a time. It features a 12 oz water tank that drains completely on every use, so to ensure you have the exact amount of coffee you want simply add as much water as you want. With such a small amount of water, it’s quick to heat up and serve.
It comes in a variety of striking colour options and features integrated cable storage to make it easy to transport. With the slim design, it’s easy to fit in a small kitchen or in a cubicle at work. Being so small it’s not as configurable as other models. While it takes different K-cups, it doesn’t support any automation or scheduling or have any settings for strength. As it only produces a single cup it’s not great for families that all like coffee, though it may actually help if everyone likes different brands of K-cup. q

The Nespresso Vertuo Next Coffee and Espresso Maker by De’Longhi, with Aeroccino Milk Frother comes with a milk frother to help you get the perfect frothy topping. It has a 37-ounce reservoir and can fit cups up to 7-inches tall and make up to 18-ounce pours. The Nespresso Vertuo pods include a barcode that is scanned to automatically apply the perfect settings. You are, however, limited to the Nespresso Vertuo pods.
The slim design makes it easy to fit on any countertop. A free pod recycling scheme is available to help the environment. There is Bluetooth functionality, however, the companion app is very feature-limited. It allows you to check the water level, apply firmware updates, and order new pods. There is no way to remotely start or schedule a brew.

- Pod recycling scheme
- Only takes Nespresso Vertuo pods
- Minimal Bluetooth functionality

- Spill free sensor
Specifications
- Cup sizes: Manual ground application
- Reservoir capacity: 92 oz (12 cups)
- Tallest supported mug: 7-inch
The Atomi Smart WiFi Coffee Maker is a true smart coffee maker, though it lacks some of the more expected smarts. Instead of using a pod to brew the perfect cup, it relies on you to insert the amount of coffee grounds you want. The smart part comes from its connectivity. The Wi-Fi connection allows you to control it remotely, via the app, or even with your voice via the Google Assistant and Alexa integrations. You can also schedule brews.
It comes with a reusable filter, though you can choose to use disposable ones. You can easily adjust the amount of coffee made, and the strength by adjusting the amount of water and coffee grounds you apply. The hotplate has a weight sensor to verify that the carafe is present before brewing to prevent spills. The hotplate can keep the pot warm for up to 4 hours, unfortunately, you can’t set it to reheat an already brewed pot or extend the four-hour limit.
- Included reusable filter
- Easy to adjust volume and strength
- Keeps pot hot for up to 4 hours
