The scripting language is a simple programming language designed to enable computer users to write useful programs quickly. Examples of scripting languages are JavaScript, a programming language that adds active content to downloaded Web pages, and Perl. Typically, scripting languages are used to assemble or “glue” resources, such as objects within the Document Object Model (DOM), for this reason, a scripting language’s variable may refer (for example) to units of code, objects, or files as well as standard data types (such as integers or strings).
Most scripting languages are designed to be translated into executable code by an interpreter; however, some can also be compiled. See CGI, compiler, DOM, interpreted programming language, interpreter, JavaScript, Jscript, Perl, PHP, Python, Tel
