Presentation Graphics Program

September 3, 2019 by Mel Hawthorne

A presentation graphics program is an application designed to create and enhance charts and graphs so that they are visually appealing and easily understood by an audience through the use of a slideshow. A full-featured presentation graphics package such as Lotus Freelance Graphics or Microsoft PowerPoint includes facilities for making a wide variety of charts and graphs and for adding explanatory content like titles, legends, and labels anywhere in the chart or graph.

Technipages Explains Presentation Graphics Program

Presentation graphics programs typically include a small library of lightweight images and icons so that a creator can add a dash of colour to charts and graphs by adding a picture related to the subject matter- for example, an airplane for a chart of earnings in the aerospace industry. Users can print output or display output onscreen as a computer slide show. Microsoft PowerPoint is easily the market leader in this niche, despite the fact that people use the software for presentations that have nothing to do with charts or statistics all the time.

As a matter of fact, other Microsoft Office products also have the ability to present and display data in various types of graphs and charts. Excel supports the creation of charts but not so much the creation of entire presentations, for example. Presentation graphics software consists of three separate elements, each with a major function. First, a text editor that allows for text to be inserted and edited, second a method for inserting, manipulating and editing graphics and images, and third, a slide-show system to display the content.

All three make up a good PGP. Since slide-show based presentations are incredibly common in the educational as well as the business world, being at least somewhat familiar with software like PowerPoint is a must.

Common Uses of Presentation Graphics Program

  • Presentation graphics programs originally focused on the display of graphs and charts, but now enable users to include anything from text to animations and transitions.
  • Compared to programs like Excel, PGP software like PowerPoint allows for created items to be displayed in a slide-show format.
  • Though popular, PowerPoint doesn’t corner the PGP market – there are other, even free alternatives available.

Common Misuses of Presentation Graphics Program

  • Presentation Graphics Programs are graphical calculators that help display complex functions.
