Android: Share Wi-Fi Password Via QR Code

Android: Share Wi-Fi Password Via QR Code

Posted on August 4, 2020 by Judy Sanhz Leave a Comment

Knowing how to share your WiFi password can be a real time-saver, especially when you’re in a hurry. But, instead of having it written down somewhere, it’s more comfortable sharing it through your Android device.

That way, it won’t fall into the wrong hands, and you’ll have fewer papers to clean around the house. The following method will show you how you can share your WiFi password without having to use a third-party app.

Quickly Share Your WiFi Password Using a QR Code – Android 10

Sharing your WiFi password got a whole lot easier with Android 10. By only going into our device’s settings, you’re able to share your WiFi password by using a customized QR code. To access your code go to:

  1. Settings
  2. Network and Internet
  3. Tap on your WiFi network’s name
  4. Tap on the cogwheel or the networks name
  5. Select the Share option with the QR code icon on the top
  6. Verify your identity by using a pin or the fingerprint sensor

Once your identity is confirmed, you’ll see a QR code for the other person to scan. Below that code, you’ll also see your password displayed, just in case the other person is having problems scanning the code. You always have the option of sharing the password in the old-fashion way.

How to Connect to a WiFi Network Using a QR Code

It’s also useful to know how to join a WiFi network through a QR code since someone will want to share their password with you. When the other person has their QR cod ready, scan the code using the camera app on your device.

If you notice that the camera isn’t focusing correctly, tap on the QR code, and the image should sharpen up. The camera should read the QR code, and you’ll get a notification to connect to the WiFi network. Tap on it to join, and you’re good to go.

Another way you can scan the QR code is by going to:

  • Settings
  • Network and Internet
  • WiFi
  • Add Network

Conclusion

Joining a WiFi network by scanning the QR code is so much better than having to manually type it in. This doesn’t require the other person to know their password to share it. How many of us actually know the password by heart, right?
