What Are WPS Files?

WPS files are a type of word processing file. They are commonly used by Microsoft Word, Kingsoft Writer and Translator’s Workbench. In the latter case, these files store project settings for translating text from one language to another.

For both types of word processing program, these files work similar to DOC files – they can store text, images, formatting and more. Unlike DOC files, these ones are unable to store certain advanced formatting options or macros.

How can you open WPS files?

With the exception of Translator’s Workbench files, this filetype can be opened by all common word processing programs across operating systems. TW files only work in combination with the proprietary software. In that case, they are not text files, but rather store information surrounding projects and settings used in the translation process.

What programs work with WPS files?

Most office suites can work with text-based WPS files. Microsoft Word, Kingsoft WPS Office, LibreOffice, OpenOffice, OxygenOffice and more – they can all open and edit WPS files.

Versions of the SDL Translator’s Workbench are needed to open and use WPS settings files.
