Word 2007: Find Word Count

Check how many words are included in your Word 2007 document.

1. Click the Review tab.

2. Click Word Count.

You can also get the amount of words in only certain parts of the document by highlighting the text before performing these steps.

The Logging is a feature in Outlook 2007 that’s used to troubleshoot technical issues. It keeps a log file of email and calendar events in Outlook. Here’s how to enable or disable this feature.

1. Under the Tools menu, click Options.

2. On the Other tab, click Advanced Options.

3. Check (enable) or uncheck (disable) the Enable logging (troubleshooting) box.

4. Click OK twice and restart Outlook. Logging Enabled should appear in the title bar.

The log file is created at C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Temp\Outlook Logging\OPMLog.log in Windows Vista. For Windows XP users, it will be created at C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Temp\Outlook Logging\OPMLog.log

How to disable the annoying help screen tips in Outlook 2007.

1. In Outlook 2007, under the Tools menu, click Customize.

2. Click the Options tab.

3. Under Other, uncheck the box for Show ScreenTips on toolbars.

How to set Outlook 2007 as the default email client.

1. In Outlook 2007 under the Tools menu, click Options

2. Click the Other tab.

3. Under General, check the box for Make Outlook the default program for E-mail, Contacts, and Calendar.

How to insert text from another file in Word 2007.

1. Click the Insert tab, in the Text group, click the arrow next to Object, and then click Text from File.

2. Find the file that you want to insert, and double-click on it.

Is Word 2007 acting as though you have accidentally hit the Insert key on your keyboard? You hit Insert again, but the text you type still overwrites instead of inserts text.

There is an option in Word 2007 called Overtype Mode that may be causing this problem. You can enable or disable this feature by performing the following steps:

1. In Word 2007, click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options.

2. Click Advanced.

3. Under Editing options, uncheck the Use overtype mode check box.

How to disable and prevent the splash screen from loading when you launch Microsoft Word.

Launching Word with the switch of /q will disable the splash screen. You can launch Word in this fashion in a couple of ways. I am using Word 2003 in this example, but this method will work with Word 2007 as well.

1. Press the Windows Key + R to bring up the Run dialog and type winword /q in the box and click OK.

2. Create a shortcut that points to the location of the Word application.

  • Right-click the desktop and select New > Shortcut.
  • Click Browse and select the location where Microsoft Word is installed. On my computer it was “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\winword.exe”.
  • Click OK once you have selected where the winword.exe file is.
  • The path should now be in the field for Type the location of the item:.
  • At the end of this line, put a space and then type /q.
  • Click Next and type in a name for the shortcut. Click Finish when you are done.

Now you should have a nice Word icon that you can use to launch Word without the splashscreen.

How to disable and prevent add-ins and global templates from loading when you launch Microsoft Word.

Launching Word with the switch of /a will disable all add-ins and global templates. This switch comes in handy if Word is crashing when you try to launch it or behaving abnormally because of an add-in or template. You can launch Word in this fashion in a couple of ways. I am using Word 2003 in this example, but this method will work with Word 2007 as well.

1. Press the Windows Key + R to bring up the Run dialog and type winword /a in the box and click OK.

2. Create a shortcut that points to the location of the Word application.

  • Right-click the desktop and select New > Shortcut.
  • Click Browse and select the location where Microsoft Word is installed. On my computer it was “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\winword.exe”.
  • Click OK once you have selected where the winword.exe file is.

You get the following error when you try to install Office 2007:

Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {10CD20D2-733E-4174-9D02-2C6C26163DA5}.

This problem usually occurrs because there is something wrong with the .NET framework installation.

1. Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.

2. Find Microsoft .NET Framework, and then click Change/Remove.

3. Click Repair, and click Next.

If that doesn’t solve the problem, you may want to try downloading and reinstalling the .NET Framework again.

How to insert a date in Word 2007 that automatically updates itself based on when it was created, printed or saved.

1. On the Office ribbon, select the Insert tab.

2. Under the Text group, click Quick Parts > Field.

4. In the Field names box, select CreateDate, PrintDate, or SaveDate.

5. Select the date and time format that you want in the Date formats box.

6. Click OK when ready.

Now the date in your document will be inserted into the document and will update automatically based on the selection you made.

Enable the Track Changes feature in Word 2007.

1. While in the document, On the Review tab, under the Tracking group, click Track Changes.

2. Make the changes you wish to make. You can also add your own notes.

How to assign a picture to a contact in Outlook 2007.

1. In Outlook, select the Contacts folder.

2. When you are in an existing contact or create a new one, click the Contact tab.

3. In the Options group, click Picture. Click Add Picture.

4. Browse to the picture you wish to use and double-click it.

Enable or disable Outlook 2007 from autosaving your email messages to the Drafts folder automatically.

1. In outlook click Tools > Options.

2. In the Preferences tab, under E-mail, click Email Options.

3. Check or uncheck the box for Automatically save unsent messages option.

4. Click OK, then OK again.

Excel 2007: Protect a Workbook

How to protect a workbook and disable the options in Excel 2007 to Insert, Delete, Rename, Move or Copy, Hide, and Unhide.

Perform the following steps:

1. Open the workbook and click Review > Changes > Protect Workbook.

2. Under the Protect Workbook dialog box, click Structure. You can set a password if you wish.

Now when a user right-clicks in the workbook, the Insert, Delete, Rename, Move or Copy, Hide, and Unhide options, they will be grayed out.
