Enable or Disable Safe Mode on Galaxy Note 5

August 24, 2015 by Mitch Bartlett 10 Comments

In this tutorial, you will learn how to enable or disable Safe Mode on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 smartphone.

Turn On Safe Mode

  1. With the Galaxy Note 5 powered off, press and hold the “Volume Down” button while pressing and holding the “Power” button to turn on the device.
  2. Once the device turns on, release the “Power” button, but continue to hold “Volume Down“.
  3. Release “Volume Down” when the Home screen loads.

The Android Home screen should load with the words “Safe Mode” displayed in the lower-left corner. If you don’t see it, try the above steps again.

Turn Safe Mode Off

Restart the device using these steps:

  1. Press and hold the “Power” button until a menu appears.
  2. Select “Restart“.

FAQ

What is Safe Mode?

It is a mode that loads basic software so that you can access your device in the event that it won’t start.

Why is my device stuck in Safe Mode?

Be sure you are choosing the “Restart” option. If you still have problems, you may need to uninstall items you may have recently installed that are causing problems on the device. It is also possible that the “Volume Down” button is stuck and causing it to start in Safe Mode with every restart.

This post applies to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 model SM-N920.

Thank you!! My phone was stuck in Safe mode due to the stuck volume down button … after cleaning up the ‘frame’ of the button with Qtip+alcohol the button is now released and the phone is off from Safe Mode.

When I press the volume down button and power button at the same time, my phone boots as it is supposed to. When I release the power button, and I am still holding the volume down button in, it just keeps rebooting. After the “Samsung” logo, it vibrates a little and just starts over. What am I doing wrong?
