Google Photos Alternatives for Free Photo Storage

Google Photos Alternatives for Free Photo Storage

By Judy Sanhz Leave a Comment

As of June 1st, Google Photos won’t offer unlimited storage for its users. You’ll still be able to save up to 15 GB of pictures and videos, but once you’ve reached that limit, you’ll need to pay.

You probably already have too many things to pay for and refuse to pay for storage. Not to worry, there are other services you can use instead. They might not offer all the options you want, but at least they’re free.

1. Cluster

If you like to keep your pictures private, then you just might like Cluster. This private photo-sharing app allows you to decide who gets to see your pictures—only people you send invitations to get to see your pictures and vice versa.

The people you share your pictures with also get to comment on your pictures. You’ll also know when someone has liked a picture and whose seem them. Also, just because you invite others to a specific album, that doesn’t mean they get to see all the pictures you’ve saved on Cluster. There are no photo editing options, but it’s still a good choice.

You can use Cluster on Android, iOS, or on the Web.

2. Box – Free Online Photo Storage

Box is another option for free online photo storage. It won’t give you unlimited storage, but it will give you 10GB for free., if you want more storage, you’ll need to choose one of their paid plans. You can also instantly look through all your files, and you can upload various files at the same time.

Since you never know where your Internet might fail, Box also has a section where you can see your files offline. You can access your files through the web app or download the mobile app. Spreadsheets and Google Docs can also be made with Box.

Another goodie is that you can also download a whole shared folder as a ZIP. If you need to add a note to a file, you can. The person you’re sharing the file without doesn’t have to have a Box account, making sharing a lot easier.  The service does have its drawbacks, such as the files you upload can’t be bigger than 250 MB, and you can’t add a password to files you share with others.

Box is available for Android, iOS, and Web.

3. Microsoft OneDrive

Microsoft OneDrive gives you 5GB of free storage, and if that’s too little for you, there are paid plans you can choose from. But it doesn’t count with any photo editing options. It does come with automatic photo uploading, but if you want to leave that for later, you can. If you already have a subscription, your plan already comes with a 1TB storage option.

You can use OneDrive on the Web, Android, and iOS.

4. Shutterfly – Free Unlimited Photo Storage

Shutterfly offers its clients unlimited photo storage. Upload as many pictures as you want without having to worry about them erasing it. If you ever want to put a picture, let’s say, on a pillow, they can do that for you. The price of what you want to do will always be displayed, so you know whether you can get that extra mug with the kids on it.

Another goodie is that there is no maximum file size limit. Still, they ask that it remain under 10GB since there’s no benefit to print with anything bigger. The only time you’ll pay is when you want to order prints.

The good news is that you get unlimited photo storage, but that’s not the case with videos. The video plans Shutterfly has to offer are 60GB for $19.99/Year, 300GB for $49.99/Year, or Unlimited for $139.99/Year. The videos you upload can not be bigger than 2GB.

Shutterfly is available for Android, iOS, and Web.

5. IDrive – Free Photo Cloud Storage

IDrive offers 5GB of free storage. With that storage limit, you also get Multiple device backup, Online File Sync, Security and privacy, Continuous data protection, Clone, backup computers, Activity reports, and more!

If you need more storage space, you can get 5TB of storage for $52.12 for the first year and 104.25 for two years. You can also get 10TB for $74.62 for the first year and $149.25 for two years. They also have business plans you might be interested in.

IDrive is available for Android, iOS, and Web.

Conclusion

It’s a shame that Google Photos won’t be offering unlimited storage anymore. It was nice while it lasted. Whether you take a lot of pictures or not, determining which service is right for you. Which one
