Turning on the captions for your Facebook videos allows you to find out still what they are saying without having to turn on the volume. How to Turn on Captions for Facebook Videos on Android

One thing to keep in mind is that not all videos will be able to show you closed captions. But if you do come across a video that supports them, here is how you can turn them on or off on your Android device once you’ve found the video. Tap on the video once to select it, and tap on it again to make the video controls appear.

When they go, tap on the cogwheel, and additional options will appear from the bottom of your display. The option to enable the Closed caption will be the first one on the list.

Depending on the video will depend on how many languages you can choose from. In the image above, the video was only available in English, but hopefully, the other videos you view will have more options. That’s all there is to it when it comes to enabling closed captions on your Facebook videos. As long as you’re there, you can also do things such as adjust the video quality, enable the data saver, and adjust the playback speed.

How to Enable/Disable Closed Caption on Facebook Video for Desktop

You’re taking a break from work and want to watch some videos on Facebook, but it has to be without the audio. Since you want to have a clue of what they are saying, you’ll need to enable the closed caption. Once you’ve signed into your account, click on the arrow pointing down at the top right of your screen.

Go to Settings and privacy, followed by settings. Scroll down on the left sidebar and click on the Videos option. You’ll see different video settings you can choose from, but the Always show captions will be the third one from the list. Click on the dropdown menu to the right and select the On options.

There is more you can do than turn on the feature. By clicking on the Edit option of the box that says The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. By clicking here, you can give the closed captions a different look. You can change things such as:

  • Background color – You can choose from colors such as black, blue, green, cyan, red, magenta, white, and yellow.
  • Background Opacity – You can choose from options such as 100%, 75%, 45%, 25%, and 0%.
  • Text Color – Your color options are black, blue, green, cyan, red, magenta, white, and yellow.
  • Text Size – You’ll see options such as 200%, 175%, 150%, 125%, 100%, 75%, and 100%.

Once you’ve made the necessary changes, don’t forget to click the Save changes button at the bottom. That’s all there is to it. Remember that you can go back anytime and change things up again. But if you usually watch Facebook videos on your iPad, here is how you can enable/disable the feature on that device.

How to Enable Closed Captioning for Video on iPad

Even if you’re in a hurry, you’ll be able to enable closed captioning for video on your iPad. Go to your iPad’s settings followed by:

  • General
  • Accessibility
  • Subtitles and captioning

The closed captions option will be at the top. You can’t miss it.
