How to Add a New WhatsApp Contact Using a Custom QR Code

Once you have WhatsApp, tap on the three dots at the top right and go to Settings. To the right of your profile picture, you’ll see an icon of a QR code.

Personal WhatsApp QR Code

Tap the QR code icon and the Scan Code tab to add your new contact. But what if the person you want to add as a contact is not there? You can still add them as a contact by having them send you the QR code. They can do this using the share option at the top of their QR code and choosing one of the available apps to send you the QR code. They can also send a screenshot if the QR code is visible.

To scan the picture of the QR code, ensure that you’re in the Scan code tab and tap on the gallery option at the bottom left (it looks like an image icon). If you need more light at the bottom right, you’ll also see a flash option you can tap to enable. WhatsApp will let you know if the QR code you’re trying to scan is invalid.

How to Share Your QR Code With Others on WhatsApp

If you’re the one sharing, here is how to access your QR code. Tap on the three dots at the top right and go to Settings. Tap on the QR code icon to the right of your profile picture. You’ll see the QR code you’ll need to show others for them to add you as a contact (On The My Code Tab). At the top, you’ll see your profile picture with any text you may have added.

How to Reset Your WhatsApp QR Code

As long as you’re in the area, you can reset your QR. Resetting your QR code is a good thing to do every once in a while if you’ve shared your QR code frequently. By resetting it, no one will have access to your information, and if someone wants to add you as their contact, they will need to ask you for the QR code. Go to the My Code tab, where you should see your QR code. Tap the three dots at the top right and choose the Reset QR code option. You’ll get a warning message that your current QR code will no longer work. If you want to continue, tap on the Reset option, and you’ll get a new one.
