PS3: Error “You cannot play this game at the current video output setting (80028F10)”

When you attempt to start certain games on your Sony PS3, you may get an error message that says:

You cannot play this game at the current video output setting (80028F10)

Try these steps to fix the problem.

Fix 1 – Switch to 720p

  1. Select the “Settings” option.
  2. Choose “Display Settings“.
  3. Select “Video Display Output“.
  4. Select “HDMI“
  5. Setting method select “Custom“, then select “720p“.

Fix 2 – Switch to Different Display Output

If you are not using an HDMI cable, you will need to switch the PS3 to reflect the connection type you are really using.

  1. Select the “Settings” option.
  2. Choose “Display Settings“.
  3. Select “Video Display Output“.
  4. Select “Composite“ or “S-Video“, whichever type of connection you use.
  5. Choose “16:9 Resolution“.

If you’re using an older TV, you may notice that the top and bottom of the picture will be chopped off when using this resolution. Things may be a bit more difficult to see. Unfortunately, there is no workaround for that problem, but you should at least be able to play the game now.
