What Are ISZ Files?

What Are ISZ Files?

Posted on January 21, 2020 by Mel Hawthorne Leave a Comment

ISZ files are disk image files of the Zip format developed by EZB Systems. In other words, they are compressed disk images. They are similar to standard ISO files, however, their compression allows for more efficient disk space usage, and they can be both encrypted and password protected.

These files can also be segmented into parts and split across multiple data carriers. That means that one ISZ file can be spread across three CDs, if necessary. In order to do this, the original ISZ file is split up into multiple smaller files. All are needed to successfully run the disk image. The first of the smaller parts will keep its ISZ extension, while all further parts are numbered as I01, I02, I03 and so on – that way, they can be ordered fairly easily later on.

How can you open ISZ files?

As ISZ files are compressed ISO files, they can be opened and executed by most ISO mounting tools. In some cases, it may be necessary to decompress the ISZ file back to its ISO state first, before using it. In the case of split files, all parts will need to be present in order for the disk image to be usable.

What programs work with ISZ files?

Common disk imaging software such as DT Soft DAEMON Tools work with this filetype, as do programs like WinMount International WinMount and EZB Systems UltraISO. Other ISO programs may also support ISZ files.
