iPhone or iPad: Reset Home Screen Icons to Default

iPhone or iPad: Reset Home Screen Icons to Default

December 17, 2018 by Mitch Bartlett 8 Comments

Are the icons on the Home screen of your Apple iPhone or iPad a mess? Are some icons missing? Well, if you wish you could start over again, you can do so by changing one simple setting.

Reset the icons on your iPhone or iPad by following these steps:

  1. Open “Settings“.
  2. Select “General“.
  3. Tap “Reset“.
  4. Select “Reset Home Screen Layout“.
  5. A notice will appear. Tap “Reset Home Screen Layout” again to confirm your selection.

Now the icons on your home screen will be reset to their default spots.

FAQ

I did these steps, but I still have some missing icons?

Try swiping all the way left and search for the app. It might be hidden in a folder. Otherwise, check to see if the app is restricted under one of the following settings depending on the version of iOS you are running:

  • “Settings” > “Screen Time” > “Content & Privacy Restrictions” > “Allowed Apps“.
  • “Settings” > “General” > “Restrictions“. Sometimes if an app is set to be restricted, the app icon will not appear anywhere.

Will I lose all of the folders I have created if I reset my Home icons?

Yes. Any changes to folders and any icon arrangement you have set will be reset.
