How to Use Split Screen With Galaxy Z Fold 4

One of the more unique reasons to purchase and use the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is its multitasking capabilities. Only a handful of smartphones on the market can match the versatility offered by Samsung’s flagship foldable phone.

It provides an incredible camera experience compared to other foldable phones, and its battery life is better than expected. Plus, there’s so much power under the hood that you’ll be hard-pressed to run into any major problems.

But arguably, the biggest reason why this phone is so appealing is the ability to use a split screen with Galaxy Z Fold 4. Since your phone can literally unfold into a tablet with a 7.6-inch display, it opens a world of possibilities to get some work done on the go. Or you can even go so far as to have the football game on one half of the screen and Twitter on the other half. That being said, there are several ways to use a split screen with Galaxy Z Fold 4.

1. Unfold and unlock your Galaxy Z Fold 4 on the Home Screen.
2. Open the first app that you want to use split screen with Galaxy Z Fold 4.
3. Go back to the Home Screen.
4. Bring up your Recent Apps menu.
   • If using gesture navigation, swipe and hold from the Home Screen.
   • If using three-button navigation, tap the right-most button in the navbar.
5. From the Recent Apps menu, tap the icon at the top of the window preview for the app you want to split screen.
6. From the dropdown menu that appears, tap Open in split screen view.
7. The screen will split in half, with the first app set to the left side of the screen.
8. On the right side, select the other app that you want to use, split screen with Galaxy Z Fold 4.

With the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Android 12L, Samsung introduced an all-new multitasking dock. This is actually available on most devices capable of running Android 12L. Still, considering that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the most popular option on the market, Samsung didn’t make it difficult to use this.

In fact, this new taskbar is enabled by default, meaning that you can start multitasking as soon as you get your new phone set up. However, if you find that the taskbar has been turned off accidentally, here’s how you can bring it back:

1. Open the Settings app on your Galaxy Z Fold 4.
2. Scroll down and tap Display.
3. From the right side of the screen, scroll down until you see Taskbar.
4. Tap the toggle next to Taskbar to the On position.
5. Tap Taskbar.
6. Toggle the following options On or Off based on your preferences:
   • Show recent apps
   • Show and hide with touch and hold
7. Exit the Settings app.

Now that the Taskbar has been enabled, it essentially makes it so you can split screen apps with Galaxy Z Fold 4 from the Dock. The only difference here is that you aren’t “stuck” only relying on the apps you put in the Dock. Here’s how you can split screen apps with Galaxy Z Fold 4 from the Dock:

1. With the Taskbar enabled, open the first app that you want to use in split-screen.
2. At the bottom of the screen, touch and hold the second app icon that you wish to use.
3. Drag the app to the appropriate location based on how you want the two apps to be laid out.

There are a total of five different options that you have when using the Taskbar for multitasking. You can have apps horizontally side-by-side, vertically overlapping, or you can drag an app to the middle of the screen and let go. This last option will put the app into a “pop-up view,” acting as a floating window that can be moved around based on your actions.

But what if you want to use an app in Split Screen mode that isn’t in your dock? If you look in the bottom left corner of the Taskbar, you’ll see a square with a total of nine dots. This is essentially a shortcut to your App Drawer, so all you need to do is tap that, find the app you want, then drag and drop it into its appropriate location on the screen.
