How to Soft & Hard Reset Acer Iconia One 10

By Mitch Bartlett 21 Comments

Sometimes you might need to perform a soft or hard reset on the Acer Iconia 10 tablet. A soft reset will simply restart the tablet without data loss. A hard reset will clear all data and settings from the device and set it back to factory default settings.

Soft Reset

A soft reset may be required if the device is frozen and unresponsive on a black or white screen. To perform a soft reset, simply press and hold the “Power” button until the Acer logo appears on the screen.

Hard Reset

A hard reset may be required if you experience constant problems with the device or if the tablet is changing ownership.

Note: If the device is changing ownership or you plan to use a different Google account with it, be sure to remove any Google accounts under “Settings” > “Accounts” before performing a hard reset. This will remove the device protection.

Method 1

Starting at the Home screen, bring up the Apps list and choose “Settings” > “Backup & reset” > “Factory data reset” > “Reset tablet” > “Erase Everything“.

Method 2

  1. With the tablet powered off, press and hold the “Volume Up” button.
  2. Press the “Power” button for about 2 seconds to turn the tablet on, then release it. Continue to hold “Volume Up“.
  3. When you see the recovery menu on the screen, release the “Volume Up” button.
  4. Use the volume buttons to toggle the selection to highlight “Wipe Data/Factory Reset“.
  5. Press “Power” to choose the selection.

This tutorial applies to the Acer Iconia 10 models B3-A30 and B3-A40.

Trying to do a factory reset on my Acer Iconia B3-A30 I can only get “=> Fastboot mode… ” in lower left hand corner of screen.
Then nothing. I get this after holding the volume up and hitting the power button for 5 seconds. Any ideas would be welcome.
    Thanks;
    Jim

my acer iconia 10 B3 A40 is starting up on red then turns blue sometimes with stripes and also turns black with snowy white and red dots flowing through and sometimes thick black vertical bars. I have tried all the fix solutions and still it does it even letting me get as far as the critical moment of performing a task then wham! In it comes and freezes me out. Is this a hacker or nasty virus? Just cannot remove it. HELP!

I can’t get my acer iconia to reset. When I turn it on I get a screen that tells me to add password to start Android. I’ve never had to do this before so I don’t know the password. I have had this since it was new never had a problem before. I had tried the steps to get it back for factory reset however it keeps going back to the same screen the one that normally comes up when I restart it. Please can you help??

My Iconia One 10 B3 A40 no longer works. Tried all of the ideas. Light does not even come on when I tried to charge the battery. Nothing. Won this in a reading contest. It did work for a couple of weeks. I showed it to the librarian who is tech savvy and she could not get it to work either.

Thanks for the volume/power key tip. My tablet also would not start even after trying it from the boot menu. However I did a system/file scan (seeme like the same idea as windows ScanDisk). After doing this (about 5 minutes) it said it was successful and then I was able to successfully reboot without losing anything. :-)

I tried the steps above and it did wipe the data. The problem I have is that I have two of these tablets that a former employee set up and it’s now asking me for the previous email address and password that these tablets were linked to. And I don’t know this. The recovery phone number was the ex-employees private number. I’ve verified that I am the owner by getting a Google verification code sent to the works email account but even though I have done that I still cannot access the tablet.

You can contact Acer and provide them with proof of purchase. They should assist you with unlocking the phone.

Hi. The former owner forgot to erase their google account. Master reset is done. Any advice? BTW…Settings button won’t open by holding @ key. Google assist nor translate work either.

Tim, i also just reboot the first time and it didn’t work, what you need to do is scroll a little bit down and select factory reset, when you have done that, than you can just simply reboot it.

I have tried both of these resets, but my one 10 still won’t work.
I get to the recovery page, but when I try to reboot, it just goes blank.
    Please help.
