How to Fix Microsoft Teams Error 2: 211 on Mac

April 22, 2021 by Madalina Dinita Leave a Comment

Microsoft Teams login problems occur quite frequently and fixing them is not always an easy task. One of the most common Teams errors on Mac is error code 2: 211. The good news is that you should be able to quickly fix it with the help of this guide.

How Do I Fix Microsoft Teams Error 211?

Clear the Cache

Error code 211 only affects the desktop app. This means that you should be able to sign into the web client without any problems. Simply go to www.teams.microsoft.com, enter your login information and check if you can access your account.

If you’re not in a hurry, and using Teams on the web doesn’t appeal to you, clear the app cache.

  1. Exit Teams completely.
  2. Open Finder, click on the Go menu and select Go to Folder.
  3. Enter ~/Library/Caches and hit Enter.
  4. Then locate and delete the com.microsoft.teams folder.
  5. Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams.
  6. Open the folder and delete these sufolders:
    • Application Cache/Cache
    • blob_storage
    • Cache
    • databases
    • GPUCache
    • IndexedDB
    • Local Storage
    • tmpms teams cache mac
  7. Then click on your profile picture and select Check for updates. Update your app if there’s a newer version available.
  8. Restart your Mac, launch Teams and check if you can log in.

Unfortunately, many users complained they need to go through the same process all over again after a short period of inactivity. Teams may log you out and you need to clear the app cache again in order to log in to your account. The same applies if you restart the app or reboot your computer.

Delete the Teams Folder

If you’re looking for a permanent solution, try deleting the entire Teams folder. That’s where the app stores the settings, cookies, and the cache file for the current user. So, go back to ~/Library/Application Support, locate the Microsoft folder and delete it. In other words, instead of just deleting the cache folders, you remove the entire Teams directory now.

Use a Different Office 365 Account

If your current Office 365 account is corrupted, recreate the account or ask your IT admin to help you out. The quickest way to check if a corrupted account is the cause of Teams error 211 is to use a different Office 365 account. If you can use Teams without any problems, then recreating your account should work.

By the way, if you’re a guest user, check if your guest access has been revoked. As always, if nothing worked, uninstall Teams, restart your Mac and re-install the app.

Conclusion

Teams error code 2: 211 usually occurs on Mac and indicates your cache files are preventing the app from logging you into your account. To fix the problem, you need to clear the app cache. If the issue persists, remove the entire Teams folder and reinstall the app. Did you find other solutions to fix this problem? Let us know in the comments below.
