The Multi-Window feature on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A allows you to view multiple app screens.

  • 1 Split Window View
  • 2 Resizable Window Mode
  • 3 Close a Window
  • 4 FAQ

Split Window View

  1. Open the apps you wish to use as you normally would.
Note: The app must be one that supports multi-screen. Otherwise, you will get a message that the app “does not support split screen view”.
  2. Tap the “Recents” galaxy-nexus-menu-button button. A list of your running apps will appear. Swipe up or down if you wish to explore between listed apps.
  3. Tap the multi-window icon located to the left of the X in the app window. It will open in the upper-half of the screen.
Note: Apps that do not have the multi-window icon cannot be run in split screen mode.

  4. Tap the multi-window icon (looks like an = sign) located at the upper-right corner of the app.
  5. Select another app to run both apps in split screen multi-window mode.

You can access additional multi-window options by tapping the circle in between the windows.

Resizable Window Mode

  1. Open an app you wish to use as you normally would.
  2. Tap the “Recents” galaxy-nexus-menu-button button. A list of your running apps will appear. Swipe up or down if you wish to explore between listed apps.
  3. Tap and hold the border to the app you wish to reduce to a window.

The app will show in a separate re sizable window. You can now drag the corner to enlarge or reduce its size, or drag the window around the screen as desired.

The screen is now divided and you can use two apps on the screen at a time.

Close a Window

  1. Tap the window you wish to close.
  2. Select the circle located in between the windows.
  3. Select the “X” option. The bottom window will be closed.

FAQ

Why can’t I use split screen with some apps?

Some apps are not compatible with this feature. There is currently no workaround for this.

This tutorial built based on the SM-T350NZAAXAR model of the Galaxy Tab A, but applies to other similar models.

Great article on how to USE this feature, why wouldnt you include how to DISABLE it? I find it a pestilent feature. Trying to tap the Close button often results in accidentally tapping this split screen button. That close proximity not being a consideration by the develooers speaks of the absent connection with the whole user base. Disabling multiscreen functionality in the settings does not rid the window tab. Even relocating it would be a step toward user base awareness. Futile
