Galaxy S8/Note8: Problem Typing Period Instead of Space

Posted on January 6, 2018 by Mitch Bartlett Leave a Comment

Many new Samsung Galaxy Note8 and S8 users are complaining that when they are typing using the on-screen keyboard, they are constantly hitting the period (.) key instead of the Spacebar. The Spacebar doesn’t seem to expand out to the right as much as it does on other keyboards or Android phones.

If this is a super-annoying problem for you, you should know that you don’t have to use the Samsung keyboard. Did you know you can switch it with these steps?

  1. Download and install a different keyboard app. My personal preference is Google’s Gboard keyboard.
  2. Open “Settings” > “General management” > “Language and input” > “Default keyboard“.
  3. Choose the desired keyboard.
The Google Gboard keyboard (bottom) is a bit easier to use than the default Samsung keyboard (top).
