What Are EASM Files?

What Are EASM Files?

Posted on January 15, 2020 by Mel Hawthorne Leave a Comment

Files using the EASM file type are eDrawings Assembly files, the file type is used to provide a visual representation of a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) file without including the full editable design specifications. EASM files are primarily used to provide client previews where the design can be viewed but without full technical specifications being available, they are also used for printing and transmitting CAD designs over the internet as the compressed XML file format reduces the file size and therefore transfer times.

How can you open EASM files?

Only a limited range of CAD programs can open EASM files, some of those require a plugin that isn’t necessarily free. Mobile apps are available on both android and iOS that can open EASM files. An online tool is available that can import and view EASM files from Google Drive. EASM files can’t be converted into other CAD file types but it is possible to convert them into image file formats.

What programs work with EASM files?

Solidworks’ eDrawings software is a free tool that can open EASM files natively. Autodesk’s Inventor can open EASM files with a free plugin while SketchUp requires a paid plugin to be able to open them. The eDrawings Viewer software has a mobile version available on both iOS and Android that can open EASM files. MySolidWorks Drive can import EASM files from Google Drive and display them online.

Being a preview file lacking full technical specifications EASM files can’t be converted into other CAD formats without having the original file. Solidworks’ eDrawings Professional (which has a free trial) can export EASM files to 2D image formats such as PNG, it can also export to a standalone EXE, which can be used without other software to view the EASM file.
