Dropbox: How to Update Your Account Email Address

Mel HawthorneFebruary 22, 2021 Comments (0)

The vast majority of websites and services require you to use your email address to sign up. Email addresses are ideal for use as usernames. They can be a point of contact for normal communication and specifically used for account ownership verification.

If email addresses weren’t used, then it would be difficult or impossible to securely verify that you are the legitimate account owner if you ever forgot your password. While other alternatives, such as text or mail, could be used, email is ideal as it’s guaranteed that you have an internet connection if you’re attempting to sign in to a website. It’s essentially real-time, so you don’t have to wait long for any confirmation messages.

Throughout your life, you’re likely to change your primary email address at least once. Perhaps your email service provider goes bust and ceases operations. Maybe they started demanding payment or increasing the cost of the service.

Alternatively, you could just have wanted to switch to an alternative provider or change your email address. Whatever the reason your email address changes, you will have to update your accounts’ email address. Alternatively, you could open new accounts if you want a fresh start or if you can’t update your email address.

How to Update Your Email Address

Thankfully, Dropbox does allow you to change the email address that is associated with your account. To do so, you need to be in your account settings. To get there, sign in to the Dropbox website. Once you’re signed in, click on your profile icon in the top-right corner, then on “Settings.”

In the default “General” tab of your account settings, click on the “Edit” button for the “Personal email” field.

In the default “General” tab of your account settings, click on the “Edit” button for the “Personal email” field.

Within the change email popup, enter the new email address that you want to use. Once you’ve done so, confirm it, enter your password, and click “Update email.”

You’ll be sent a confirmation email to the new email address; click on the link in the email to verify the change.

Enter and confirm the new email address you want to use, enter your password, and click “Update email.”

If you’re in the process of changing the email address that you use for everything, you’ll likely want to change the email address that your accounts are registered to. By following the steps in this guide, you can change the email address associated with your Dropbox account.
