How to Download & Install Apps on Amazon Fire

November 17, 2015 by Mitch Bartlett 16 Comments

Want to get started with downloading and installing apps to your Amazon Fire device? Here’s how.

Option 1 – Download From Appstore on Device

  1. Swipe over to the Home screen and select the “Appstore” icon.

  2. Navigate the site to find an app you want, or search for it using the search box at the top of the screen.
  3. When viewing an app, select the “Get App” button, and the “Download” button to download the app.

The app will download and automatically install.

Option 2 – Push App From Amazon Website

  1. From a web browser, visit the Amazon Appstore.
  2. Navigate to an app you wish to download
  3. From the app page, select your device in the “Deliver to” drop-down menu, then select “Get App“.

The app will be pushed to your Fire and automatically install.

Option 3 – Install Apps From Third Party Sites

If the Amazon Appstore doesn’t have the app you want, you can use third-party websites to install Android apps from an APK file using these steps.

  1. Go to “Settings” > “Security” > “Apps from Unknown Sources“ and turn it “On“.
  2. Using the web browser (Silk) on the Fire tablet, visit the website. Personally, I use APKMirror.
  3. Download the file from the website.
  4. Open the notification area (top bar). It should show that the .APK file is downloading. Tap it once the download has finished.
  5. Select “Install“.

I can’t seem to download apps or find any of my paid ones. If you didn’t buy a subscription through Amazon, good luck using any of the apps that you pay for. What good is an Amazon Fire if you can’t use it for more than browsing the internet?
-Can’t listen to my music app that I pay for
-Can’t download/play the game that I paid for
-Can use the app I have a monthly subscription for
-Can’t log into 2 different apps from their home pages (yet I’m able to with the actual apps on my phone)

I have downloaded apps from Amazon App Store, however, sometimes I’ll get a message telling me that the app must be downloaded from the Amazon App Store, then it closes the app, and opens the Amazon App Store. Since the app was downloaded in the Amazon App Store, it just brings up the app with the open button. What gives?
