There is a setting that allows the BlackBerry Curve to check your spelling as you type your email messages. You can turn on this feature if you find it useful, or turn it off if you find it annoying like I do with these steps:

1. From the main menu, open Options.

2. Select Spell Check.

3. Check or uncheck the box for Check Spelling As You Type as desired.

Windows 7: Find Product Key

Before you try to format and reinstall Windows 7, you may need to find out what your product key is. There used to be a way where you could find the product key in the system registry, but the data is encrypted now. The easiest way to get the product code is to find a program that does it for you.

The best one I’ve found is Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder. The program supports command line options and will also provide serial keys to Microsoft Office products.

I was playing a video I had just recorded using the iPhone 3G S, and there was no sound at all. Perplexed, I looked through some of the options in the Camera application and couldn’t find anything.

It turned out, that if the ringer switch on the side of the phone is set to vibrate for incoming calls, audio will not play on your video. I flipped the switch and sound started playing again.

This registry hack can bring back the missing Undock PC option to your Start menu.

1. Click the Start button and type regedit in the Start Search box.

2. Click the arrow next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER to expand it.
then Software
then Microsoft
then Windows
then CurrentVersion
then Policies
then Explorer

3. Right-click a blank area on the right side and choose New > DWORD Value

4. Give the value a name of NoStartMenuEjectPC.

5. Give it a value of 0 to show the Undock PC option. A value of 1 disables this feature.

Note: Instead of HKEY_CURRENT_USER, you might want to try HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE if you only have a default account in Windows. Use the same path for this setting.

You’re at the airport. You have to send that final email before you board the plane. You get a warning on your laptop that your battery only has 5 minutes worth of power. What can you do to ensure that your laptop won’t drop you in the middle of your message?

I’ve found that anything involving video or wireless functions tend to suck down the most power. Here are some things you’ll need to do to save your power so that you can get the more important items done.

Close chat programs – Chat programs sit in the background and constantly check to see who’s online, who sent a message and even if you have an email message waiting. This takes precious power from your battery each time it checks something.

Lower screen brightness – Almost all laptops have a function that will dim and brighten the screen. Dim the screen as much as you can and it’s likely that you can quaduple the time out of your battery.

Close anything with Flash – If you have a web page or game open that uses intensive Flash animations, it can drain your battery very quickly.

Close Facebook – Facebook is another thing that is constantly checking things. It checks to see if your friends have posted anything new, for new messages and chats.

Close any video – Of course if you are trying to watch a movie while working, the audio and movement of the video will drain down your battery faster than anything on this list.

Disable all sound – If your laptop has anything open that sends sound to speakers or a headset, you’re blowing through power at a higher rate than normal. Give up the iTunes for the moment so you can get your work done. For best results, use the option in your operating system to mute sound completely.

Keep the laptop cool – The internal fan kicks on whenever the laptop gets hot. Keeping the laptop cool will prevent it from wasting power on the fan.

Unplug anything USB – Any hardware attached to the laptop can suck power away.

iPhone 3G S: Record Video

You can now record video on the iPhone 3G S. Here’s how:

1. Open the Camera application.

2. Slide the Camera/Video switch over to Video.

3. Tap the Record button (button with the red dot). The red dot starts flashing while it records the video. To focus the video on a certain area, simply tap it. Tap the Record button when you wish to stop recording.

What to Do When iPod Freezes

The most common problem people email me about is that their iPod is frozen. They want to know what to do about it.

The first thing you need to check is to make sure the Hold switch isn’t enabled on the device. If the Hold switch is enabled, your iPod will not respond to any buttons you push. Make sure Hold is switched to Off.

If  your iPod is truly frozen, you will need to learn how to reset it. There are different steps required depending on the model you own.

Click the model you own to learn how to reset your iPod:

If these steps do not work, you may need to just let the device sit and run out of power for a few hours. I had a Nano that wouldn’t respond to anything, and I had to unplug it from my computer and wait for it to sit overnight and run out of power. The next morning it powered on and all the music was gone, but I was able to sync it over later.

Last option if the above steps don’t work of course would be to send your iPod to Apple for service. Hopefully though it hasn’t come to that.

The iPhone 3G S has a feature where you can play songs using voice commands.

Just press and hold the Home button or the Center button on your headset and say “Play song by <artist name>” or “Play song <song name>“. The iPhone will then announce that it is playing the song and proceed in playing it.

I put a DVD in my drive and only the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder appeared. It didn’t Autorun the DVD. Sure, I could just go to Start > Programs > Windows Media Player and play it there. But I’m lazy and I want it to Auto Play.

To make a video DVD automatically play when you insert it into the drive, you can perform the following steps:

1. Open My Computer/Computer.

2. Right click on the DVD drive.

3. Select Properites.

4. Click the AutoPlay tab.

5. In the dropdown, select DVD movie.

6. Select the radio button for Select an action to perform.

7. Select Play DVD movie using Windows Media Player.

8. Click OK.
