What Are WLMP Files?

What Are WLMP Files?

Posted on January 21, 2020 by Mel Hawthorne Leave a Comment

WLMP files are Windows Live Movie Maker Project files. Developed by Microsoft, these video files contain movie projects created by the Windows Live Movie Maker. This program can be used to make movies and slideshows, and WLMP files can contain paths to videos, transitions, images, music, and effects featured in the project.

It’s worth noting that the WLMP file doesn’t contain the actual content, but only paths to it – it links to the elements that are shown in the final product.

How can you open WLMP files?

Different generations of the Windows Live Movie Maker (including the rebranded version named Windows Movie Maker) can open and edit these files. The Widows Photos app that eventually replaced the now discontinued software does NOT support this filetype.

What programs work with WLMP files?

Versions of the Windows Live Movie Maker since 2000 and some other programs from the Windows Essentials Software Suite can work with this filetype. This includes the Windows Movie Maker. Other programs are unlikely to support this filetype.
