How to Restore a WhatsApp Backup

How to Restore a WhatsApp Backup

December 2, 2019 by Judy Sanhz 2 Comments

You played it safe and created a backup of all your WhatsApp content. Good thing you did because after the incident, you lost everything on your phone. The good news is that restoring all your backed up WhatsApp content is quick and easy.

The process is a bit longer if you’re backing up your WhatsApp content on another phone, but only a few steps are added. Keep in mind that you won’t be able to backup your WhatsApp content if you didn’t create one in the first place onto Google Drive.

If you haven’t done so, go to Google Play and install WhatsApp. Once the app is done installing, you will be greeted with a Welcome to WhatsApp. You’ll need to read (your choice) and tap on the green Agree and Continue button at the bottom.

You’ll be asked to enter your phone number, and a confirmation code will be sent to your phone. Enter this code in WhatsApp to continue. After adding your name and adding granting the necessary permissions, WhatsApp will ask you if you want to restore your backup or not.

Tap on Restore, and the process should only take about a minute or two. After tapping on the restore button, make sure that you select the same Google account you created the backup in. This is a precaution you only have to take if you have more than one account.

Don’t forget that your phone will only save a week’s worth of chats. The backups will also be made automatically every day at 2:00 am.

Conclusion

WhatsApp helps you restore your backup, just make sure that you’ve chosen the right account. If you select an account where you don’t have the WhatsApp backup,  you won’t be able to get your chat content back. Did you run into any problems when restoring your WhatsApp chat? I was trying to use a new number and a new phone but to have my old whatsapp chats without losing anything. I firstly used change number to be able to use my old accounts on the new phone then I tried creating the accounts on the new phone. So on the enter number part I put in the old number, then quickly it gave me a prompt code on the old phone since it had the sim. So I entered the code and my 2-2 verification code then it opened with all my previous groups, both old as far as 2015 and new. Now the problem is my back up of all the chats and previous messages did not appear, please help.

I have tried restoring whatsapp on my new phone (same tel number) but whatsapp doesn’t seem to find my backup on GOOGLE DRIVE nor the copy of it I saved on my SD card on a Samsung a32 5g.
In the process of verifying your ID vs account, whatsapp ask for your name. Could, if I didn’t type the exact name as per the previous setting, that be my problem? Only the group chats I was in (as a guest) get restored.
    Thanks for any input.
