iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch: How to Turn Off Radio

iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch: How to Turn Off Radio

May 4, 2016 by Mitch Bartlett 7 Comments

Apple iOS comes with a iTunes Radio feature. Users love it, but some have become confused about how to turn the radio off. As a result, they get stuck with the radio playing in the background on their iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

You can turn the radio off by force closing the Music app, controlling the music from the app, or using the Control Center. Just use these steps.

Option 1 – From Control Center

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and the Control Center should appear. This will work while you are on any screen in any app, even on the Lock screen.
  2. Select the “Pause” button.

Option 2 – Force Close App

  1. Double push the “Home” button (the button below the screen).
  2. A list of running apps appears. Close the “Music” app off the screen by swiping it upward and the radio will stop running.

Option 3 – Pause From Music App

You can bring the music to a stop by pausing it from the Music app.

  1. Open the “Music” app.
  2. Tap the “Pause” button.

FAQ

Can I stop the music instead of pausing it?

Not really. The way they designed the feature only allows pausing really, which essentially is the same as stop.

I don’t have anything that looks like what you are describing, but a radio is playing music and I don’t know how to turn it off. What are you talking about?

You might be using a third party radio or music app. You may also be using it in iOS version 6, which doesn’t come with iTunes Radio. In this case, you can force close the app that is playing music by double-tapping the Home button, then tapping and holding an app. From there, you can swipe over to the app, then tap the red – to close it.

I have a lot of my own music on my iphone 11 that I like to play. I do not need or want the iPhone RADIO. All of the sudden the iPhone Radio comes up when I click on the music icon. Is there any way I can stop it rom coing up? All I want to see is my music when I click on the music icon.

Hi, just found this site and wondering if you can help. Is there a way to totally disable the “radio” feature in the Apple Music? I don’t want my child having any access to it, just to the Playlists.

I can’t seem to find any way to do this…do you have any advice? Thank you!
