Galaxy S7: Disable Camera Shutter Sound

Mitch BartlettApril 12, 2016 Comments (14)

If you’re using your Samsung Galaxy S7 to quietly take a photo, the camera shutter sound makes things a bit more difficult. You may want to silence the shutter if you’re taking a picture of a sleeping pet or quiet events like a wedding reception. Fortunately, you can disable the shutter sound on the device with these easy steps.

Option 1 – From Settings

  1. Open the “Camera” app.
  2. Select the settings gear located at the upper-left corner of the screen
  3. Scroll down toward the bottom and slide “Shutter sound” to “On” or “Off” as desired

Option 2 – Silence System Sounds

One some carriers, the camera shutter sound is controlled by the overall Android sound setting. You can turn the sound off by lowering the “System” volume. You can do this with these steps:

  1. Slide down the notification bar from the top of the screen using two fingers.
  2. Tap and hold the “Volume” speaker icon. Sound and notification settings should appear.
  3. Select “Volume“.
  4. Slide the “System” volume all the way to the left

Of course, don’t forget to enable the sound on your Galaxy S7 once you’re done taking photos.

Note: Some carriers and countries do not allow you to silence the shutter sound on the camera.

    In the camera settings menu:
Set the phone volume keys to control media volume.
    Open the camera App
Press one of the volume buttons to open the media volume slider
Select the little chevron in the top, right side of screen.
Set the sound for the camera on/off or adjust volume.

I cannot find a “sound” choice under my gear settings. Thus, still clicking away!
I see others have the SAME issue.
    HELP!

For turning of shutter sound you may download an app “No shutter Sound” from play store. I also figured out this for my S7 edge camera.

Is it possible to record only video (and not audio) with the camera? I couldn’t find an option in the configurations to disable audio recording.

I purchased Galaxy S7 in India in October 2016. I have recently updated the OS to Android 7.0.
In my device when I open the Camera App, the Setting gear icon is on top right corner.
When I open the Settings, there is no Shutter Sound option anywhere.
Muting the System Sound works, but it is very primitive way of doing it.
    Please help.

Please tell if there is any way to get a Sound alert once the phone is fully charged. This was there in Samsung Note 1 and Panasonic T40 (Android 4.4).

I was hoping to find an actual fix. I’ve been turning down the volume in order to take pictures, and it is such a low- tech method as to be unacceptable on an expensive (to me) “modern” phone. The Galaxy S7 is disappointing.

I’ve had my S7 edge from release date and have always taken my pics with shutter sounds off, but now the option to turn shutter sounds on or off are no longer there, is there any known reason why? It’s annoying as hell to here click click click all the time :(

Your option 2 worked an absolute treat for me, I have to take a lot of images for work, outside in a noisy environment, and it has been very frustrating trying to find the solution on the web, I can’t thank you enough.
    Kind regards
