Word Processing Program

October 16, 2019 by Mel Hawthorne

Word processing programs or software is a type of advanced typing program that allows a user to record information and then letting the user perform a variety of other things with it. Having evolved and expanded over the years, word processing programs now support things like creating, editing, proofreading, formatting and printing information recorded. This will by default be text, but can include other elements in more modern software versions that support things like images, graphics, etc.

Technipages Explains Word Processing Program

Popular examples of word processing programs include Microsoft Work, LibreOffice’s Writer and WordPerfect. At their core, most programs have the same functionality. They are used by just about every business out there, and for a variety of purposes. Careers that include a lot of writing – editors, authors, journalists and the like – all but depend on this type of software by now, and in no small part because of the included features.

The most common features include OLE – object linking and embedding, thesauruses, spell-checkers and a feature we have come to expect by now – WYSIWYG editing. Short for what you see is what you get, just about every software in this category allows you to set things like font size, text colour, font type and more. The settings you choose on your screen reflect perfectly what you will end up with if you were to print the document – in other words, what you see on the screen is what you get off the screen.

Modern word processing programs go even further – they can even take on some desktop publishing duties. In other words, they can release a finished file in a variety of file formats and for a variety of purposes.
