Web Browser is a client program that runs on an Internet-connected computer and uses the Hypertext Transport Protocol (HTTP) to connect to Web servers. Web browsers are of two kinds: text-only browsers and graphical Web browsers. The two most popular graphical browsers are Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator.
All Web browsers can decode Web pages that have been marked with the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). Graphical browsers can also read and display graphics (including GIF and JPEG graphics). Graphical browsers can also read formatting information encoded according to the Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) standard, interpret embedded JavaScript programs, run Java applets, play multimedia objects (such as sounds and videos), and set up secure communications for financial transactions. See applet, CSS, HTML, HTTP, JavaScript, Web server.
