RDF

By Jennifer Spencer

RDF (Resource Description Framework) is a specification for developing logical resource classification systems. Developed by the World Wide Web Consortium, it enables programmers to create classification systems for a variety of Web-accessible resources. It has also been used to generate classification schemes to rate sites’ suitability for children, for example. See PICS. RDRAM Also called Direct Rambus DRAM and Rambus DRAM.

Technipages Explains RDF

RDF is a structure for how to explain any Internet asset. An RDF depiction can incorporate the creators of the asset, date of creation or refreshing, the association of the pages on a site, data that portray content regarding a group of spectators or substance rating, watchwords for web index information gathering, subject classifications, etc.

A first open draft of RDF showed up in October 1997, issued by a W3C working gathering that included delegates from IBM, Microsoft, Netscape, Nokia, Reuters, SoftQuad, and the University of Michigan. In 1999, the W3C distributed the first prescribed RDF determination, the Model and Syntax Specification (“RDF M&S”). This depicted RDF’s information model and an XML serialization.

The Resource Description Framework will make it workable for everybody to share Web webpage and for designers to manufacture items that can utilize the metadata to give better web search tools and registries, to go about as clever operators, and to Web clients more control of their search result. The RDF is implementation of other innovations like the Extensible Markup Language (XML) and is under the sponsorship of the World Wide Consortium (W3C).

RDF is presently a formal W3C Recommendation, implying that it is prepared for general use. At present, a second W3C suggestion, still at the Proposal arrange, proposes a framework wherein the portrayals identified with a specific reason (for instance, all depictions identified with security and protection) would establish a class of such like representations (utilizing class here much as it is utilized in item situated programming information demonstrating and programming).

Common Uses of RDF

  • RDF plays a subtle but important role on the internet
  • RDF is somewhat of a hybrid framework because it is built on the foundation of XML and W3C
  • RDF has been around 23 years, and it still is of great importance today

Common Misuses of RDF

  • With RDF it is almost impossible for users to share a webpage
