YouTube: How to Create a Playlist

YouTube: How to Create a Playlist

Posted on February 20, 2020 by Mel Hawthorne Leave a Comment

YouTube is one of the best streaming and music applications out there – there is so much great content there that it’s pretty much impossible to keep track of them all. Thankfully, there is the playlist feature – a neat way to organize your videos in whatever way you want to.

The first step to a perfectly organised playlist system is creating said playlists – thankfully, it’s easy. There are two main ways to do so:

  1. Through a video

The fastest way to do so is directly on a video – make sure you are logged in. If you are, you’ll see a “Save” button below the player of your video. Click on it and you’ll be presented with a list of existing playlists as well as the option to create a new one.

Click on it and enter the name of your playlist. You can also decide the privacy setting – there are three.

  • Public: Anyone can see or search for your list by name.
  • Private: Only you can see the list, no exceptions.
  • Unlisted: While your list won’t show up in search results, anyone who has a direct link to it can watch what’s on it.

Lastly click on “Create”, and your new playlist is ready to go. The video you created the playlist on is automatically added as the first video on the list.

Add Playlist via video

Naturally, you can add more videos later, or remove the one already added. This method also works on mobile.

  1. Through the channel

Another way to add a playlist is through your channel. Again, make sure you’re logged in and click on your account logo in the corner, then click on “My Channel”. Near the top, you’ll find an option labelled “Customise Channel”.

Click on it, then move to the Playlist tab of your channel. Be aware that if you are using the dark mode feature, clicking the customise button will change the site to white. Once you are on the Playlist page, you’ll see a button near the top labelled “New Playlist”.

You’ll have the same options as before – you need to enter a name, select the privacy setting and then you can click “Create” and you’re all done!

Add Playlist through channel

Your new playlist won’t have any videos yet, but you can add them as normal. Unlike the previous method, this one works only on Desktop versions of YouTube. While you can customise your channel on mobile devices too, you won’t see the “Add Playlist” button there.
