Windows 10: Fix “The component store has been corrupted.” Error

Mitch BartlettJanuary 21, 2017 Comments (1)

I was helping somebody with the installation of their new Windows Mobile device and we couldn’t get the phone to install to their Microsoft Windows 10 computer. An error appeared every time we tried that said:

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.  The component store has been corrupted.

Fortunately, we were able to find a fix.

The fix for was to install the Microsoft System Readiness Tool and run it. This tool works on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, Server 2012, and Server 2008.

The Readiness Tool will repair the broken parts of the registry that this error message references. Afterwards, your device should install successfully without error.
