As a System Administrator, I often have to compare and find the differences between two files. Most often I have to compare two text files that contain lists of users and find the text that is missing from one of them easily. Here’s how I prefer to do it.
- Download and install TortoiseSVN. This is a tool that software developers use to compare code.
- Once installed, you will have an option when you right-click on files for Tortoise SVN. Hold the “CTRL” key, then click on the two files you want to compare.
- Once the two files are highlighted, right-click on one of them, then select “Tortoise SVN” > “Diff“.
- The TortoiseMerge screen will appear where you will be shown the difference between the two files.
