There are various things you can do to personalize your Windows 10 computer. For example, you can name your taskbar and add your favorite wallpaper. Don’t forget that you can also change the taskbar location as well. Who doesn’t want to give their computer their own personal touch, right? So, how does making the taskbar transparent sound?
How to Create a Clear Taskbar in Windows 10
By default, all Windows 10 taskbar’s have their default color. But, after a while, it would be nice to not have to stare at the same color for too long. In that case, you can always make the Windows 10 taskbar transparent, but to do this, you’re going to need to use the Registry. Make sure to not do anything that’s not mentioned in the article, or you could cause some serious damage to your computer. But, if you stick to the instructions, all is well.
To get started, go to Search and type regedit. When the Registry appears, click on the open option and give it permission to modify your computer.
Once the Registry is open, go to:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
- SOFTWARE
- Microsoft
- Windows
- CurrentVersion
- Explorer
- Advanced
Right-click on the Advanced subkey and go to New, followed by DWORD (32-BIT). Make sure that you name your new creation UseOLEDTaskbarTransparency. Once it’s there, double-click on it, and when the properties page comes up, change the Value data from zero to one.
To finish things up, click on OK. To see your new transparent, you can restart your computer or go to Settings > Personalization > Colors. Turn the Transparency effects option on and then off, and on once again.
Final Thoughts
Now you have a different taskbar from all the rest. Doesn’t your new taskbar look fancy? What other ways do you customize your taskbar? Let me know in the comments below.

Hi. I was eager to try this. I would love to see more of what I’m doing, yet not altogether hide the taskbar. (Ie, just see icons, searchbar, etc, yet still have more than 50% of that precious computer screen real estate visible for whatever I’m working on (like looking at more of this webpage, eg!).
I carefully followed the instructions above. (I am not one to change the registry, by and large.)
It didn’t work for me.
Any suggestions welcome…or any questions that would help diagnose more of why I got the outcome I did welcome, too.
