Windows 10: How to Enable Start Screen

Windows 10: How to Enable Start Screen

Posted on April 29, 2020 by Mel Hawthorne Leave a Comment

Windows 7 was incredibly popular, and many people liked how it was designed. So, when Windows 8 came out with a radical new design direction, a lot of people objected. The negative feedback was strong enough that Microsoft changed its approach and designed Windows 10 to look more like Windows 7.

Some people still liked the design of Windows 8  though, and miss things like the “Start Screen” that replaced the “Start menu” of Windows 7.

If you’re one of the people that miss the Windows 8 Start Screen, you’ll be happy to know that it’s possible to make Windows 10’s start menu look much more like the old Start Screen.

To do so, open the Settings app by pressing the Windows key, typing “Settings” and hit enter. Once in the Settings app click on the “Personalisation” section, then click on the “Start” tab on the left. The second-to-last option in the list is labelled “Use Start full screen”, toggle this setting to “On”. Now if you press the Windows key again, you’ll see that your Start menu is now laid out a lot more like the old Start Screen design.

Enabling “Use Start full screen” will make the Start menu appear much more like the old Start Screen.

You can customize it in the same way you’re used to from Windows 8 – you can add, change and move tiles to your liking, remove things you don’t need and recreate your favourite Windows 8 layouts.
