Voice activation can be a cool feature to have – it allows you to do some things hands-free that you otherwise couldn’t. Unfortunately it can also get annoying – if you use it without meaning to.
Thankfully Windows 10 allows you to turn it off with relative ease. To do so, you need to open your Privacy settings. Simply press your Windows key and type in “Privacy Settings”, then press Enter.
The Privacy window will open. There, on the bottom left, you’ll find the option for Voice activation.
Tip: If the Voice activation option isn’t there, check your Microphone settings instead. In order to work, voice activation needs your microphone to be active. If that’s disabled, you don’t have to worry about voice activation, because it won’t work at all.
In the menu on the right, you’ll find several options – you’ll be able to turn it off entirely, restrict use when the device is locked (which stops the computer from listening when it’s in sleep mode), and restrict which apps have access. You can find a list of apps at the bottom, and turn on or off permissions for each one.
If you do not have a list there, then you don’t currently have any apps that have or want access to the voice activation feature. You can still turn it off altogether if you don’t want to use the feature at all.
