Vivaldi for Android: How to Enable Ad-Blocking

Vivaldi for Android: How to Enable Ad-Blocking

By Mel Hawthorne Leave a Comment

Adverts on the internet are generally seen as annoying. They typically take up a fair amount of the screen, behave in intrusive ways, use up limited data caps, and cause page loading times to be slower. To prevent these issues, many users have taken to using ad-blockers.

Tip: Ad-blockers also have the added benefit of preventing malvertising. Malvertising is an issue where hackers buy adverts and use them to infect devices with malware and viruses.

The Vivaldi browser on Android offers an ad-blocker, although it is disabled by default. To enable the ad-blocker, you need to use the in-app settings. To access these, tap the Vivaldi icon in the top-right corner of the app, next to the search bar.

Tap the Vivaldi icon to see the settings button.

To open Vivaldi’s settings, tap “Settings” near the bottom of the drop-down box.

Tap “Settings” to open Vivaldi’s settings.

In Vivaldi’s settings, scroll down to the “Privacy” section, then tap “Tracker and Ad Blocking”.

Tap on “Tracker and Ad Blocking” in the “Privacy” section.

Vivaldi blocks trackers by default, however, the ad-blocker is left disabled. To enable ad-blocking, tap “Block Trackers and Ads”. This setting will apply browser wide, although it won’t take effect on a page until it refreshes.

Tip: Trackers are tracking scripts that websites and advertisers use analyse your behaviour in an effort to target advertisements to you.

Tap “Block Trackers and Ads” to enable ad-blocking.

Excluding a site from ad-blocking

If you want to allow adverts on a specific website, you can do so by tapping “Manage blocking level per site” at the bottom of the “Tracker and Ad Blocking” page.

Tip: Blocking adverts prevents websites from collecting ad-revenue, if you want to support a site, disabling your adblocker can help. Just be aware this will open you up to all the downsides of adverts again.

To allow adverts on a website, tap “Add New Domain”.

To exclude a website from your ad-blocking policy tap, “Manage blocking level per site”, then “Add New Domain”.

On the “Add New Domain” page, enter the domain name of the website you want to allow advertisements on.

Tip: Exclude the “http://” or the “https://” from the start of the URL and any page-specific information. You just need the domain name, such as “technipages.com”.

Next, configure the level of blocking you want. When you’re happy with the result, tap “Done” to save.

Enter the domain name of the site you want to apply an exclusion to, then tap “Done”.
