Twitch.tv: How to Block a User

Twitch.tv: How to Block a User

By Mel Hawthorne Leave a Comment

When using any service that allows you to communicate with other users, you may come across users that are excessively unpleasant. In many cases, simply trying to ignore the user can be enough to deal with the situation. In some cases, though the user can decide to continue things all on their own, and actively seek out to annoy, troll, and harass you. if this is the case, the best thing you can do to avoid the situation is to use the platform’s tools to stop the user from being able to contact you.

In Twitch, like with many other services, the main option to prevent another user from being able to contact you is to block them. There are a couple of ways to block someone on Twitch, the easiest is through their user card. To access a user’s user card, click on their username in chat. Once you’ve done so, click on the triple-dot icon in the bottom right of their user card. This will give you the option to “Block” or “Report” the user.

To be able to block a user, click on their username in chat, then click on the triple-dot icon in their chat card and click “Block {username}”.

After you click the block button, a confirmation popup will appear, explaining what effects blocking the user will have. Clicking “Block” means that the user will be prevented from sending you private messages, from hosting your channel, from adding you as a friend, from gifting subscriptions to other users in your channel, and will filter their messages out of Twitch chat in channels that you don’t moderate. This prevents them from being able to contact you completely.

Tip: You will still be able to see messages from blocked users in channels where you are a moderator as otherwise, you would be unable to moderate their comments.

Click “Block” to block the user from being able to contact you.
