Troubleshooting Huawei P40 Pro Slow Updating

Troubleshooting Huawei P40 Pro Slow Updating

September 14, 2020 by Mona Leave a Comment

Huawei continues to thrive despite the ongoing US-China trade war that has left many of its phone users up in the air. Even Google has made it difficult to be a Huawei user, but manufacturers aren’t letting Google’s software ban get in the way of functionality. Some users have rated the Huawei Mobile Service Platform just as, if not more, efficient than Google services.

Fortunately, this has very little, if any, impact on software upgrades to the new Huawei P4 Pro smartphone. Any lag in the system is due to the actual performance of your phone as opposed to political trade wars.

Available Software Upgrades for Huawei P40 Pro

Although many US users washed their hands of Huawei products when the feud first started, the release of the latest Huawei P4 Pro has people reaching for the forbidden product once more.

The phone features a 2,640 x 1,200 screen resolution with a sleek body design and is available in five colors: Black, Blush Gold, Deep Sea Blue, Silver Frost, and Ice White.

In early April this year, the P4 Pro software was updated to EMUI 10.1.0.114. This update included find-my-phone, Huawei Golden Camera Snap with a Sound booster, and gallery management capabilities. This update was topped by another update in late April with EMUI version 10.1.0.122. This release addressed all the issues that arose from the last update with a couple of improvements like condensed color scheme clock style for the Always-on Display and overall software stability. The EMUI version 10.1.0.126 was released in May with picture in picture mode. The latest EMUI update is version 10.1.0.131. This came with a search app search bar.

Users have noticed that when they update their Huawei P4 Pro to the latest EMUI version, the screen tends to freeze, or the update takes forever to complete. Although this may happen in very few cases, here are ways to troubleshoot this inconvenience.

Why Your Huawei P4 Pro May Be Taking Forever To Upgrade

While it may be normal for the process to take several minutes to complete, if it stretches on for hours, then there is definitely something amiss.

1. Too Many Background Apps

Check your mobile phone to determine how many apps are running in the background.  If you are running other functions like transferring files or downloading bulky items from the internet like videos, then this may cause your update to take forever to complete.

In this case, you can either stop the background tasks or wait for them to finish before continuing your update. Every now and then, running too many background apps can cause the phone to overheat. This will slow everything you try to do on the phone. When this happens, power down your phone, wait for it cool, and in a couple of hours, start it back up again. You can also turn off apps that consume a lot of power and reduce screen brightness.

2. Not Enough Space

Have you ever noticed how anytime your phone memory fills up to a particular percentage it turns red? This is because having less than 10% available storage memory can lower read and write speeds.

Check your available memory space and make sure you have at least 10% available. If not, delete files to free up space. You can also go to the Phone Manager app and click on Optimize to clean up storage space. Also, make sure that the default storage location is your internal storage.

3. Third-Party Apps

Restrictions attached to third-party apps may make your system update hang. You may want to uninstall some third-party apps, especially file manager apps, so that they don’t clash with the default Phone Manager App.

Factory Data Reset

If none of the above helps speed up your update, then it may be time to pull in the big guns and wipe the whole slate clean. Back up data that is important to you in the cloud or on an external storage device. Then perform a factory data reset.

  1. Go to Settings > System > Reset > Factory Data Reset.
  2. Confirm your reset command by entering in your device’s password.
  3. Once you have completed your data reset, you can go ahead and update your device.

Wrapping Up

Before you even start updating your system, make sure you have enough storage space, a stable internet connection, a fully charged battery, and no power-intensive apps in the background. You want to set your phone up for success the first time around so you can ensure a smooth, hassle-free update.
