The status feature on WhatsApp first rolled out in 2017. Since then, it’s been a feature most users can’t live without. Some use it to tell others about their day, while others use it to sell things. Regardless of the reason as to why you use it, are you sure you’re getting the most out of the feature? Let’s see how you can become a WhatsApp status master.
Get the Most out of the WhatsApp Status
You surely have the basics down, such as posting a picture or a video, but you can do more than that. For example, whenever you try to post a video longer than 30 seconds, WhatsApp won’t load the entire video. 30 seconds is the maximum amount of time for a video. Still, there’s a way you can post your entire video in a perfect sequence.
How to Post Long Videos in a Perfect Sequence on WhatsApp
It can be annoying when you want to post a video that’s longer than 30 seconds, so it runs in a perfect sequence. You may not pick up exactly where the previous section left off, which can ruin the effect you want the video to have. Why go through all that stress when an app can divide the video into sections of 30 seconds for you? All you have to do is post those sections in the right order.
The app you’re going to need for this is called Video Splitter for WhatsApp Status and Instagram. When you first install the app, you’re going to have to give it permission to access your files, reasonable permission. The app does have ads, and if you want to get rid of them, you can go Premium for $10. But they’re not too annoying, so unless you can’t stand ads, the free version works just fine.
To split your video, tap on the Split video option. It’s the first option when you open the app.
Look for and select the video you want to split. At the bottom, you’re going to see three options: WhatsApp Split, Custom Split, and Single Split. To have the video divided into several 30-second videos, choose the first option. Next, the app will show you a message letting you know how long the split will take.
Once the app is done, you’ll see the videos split into various videos. All you have to do is post them one by one to WhatsApp, and you’re good to go. All the videos you split will be saved in the Saved Video option on the app’s main page.
How to Silence a Specific WhatsApp Status
Sometimes there’s just a status you couldn’t care less about. But, you look at it anyway out of curiosity. If you don’t want to be tempted, you can always silence that status, so you don’t have to see it anymore. You can do that by opening WhatsApp and going to the Status tab.
Long-press on the status you want to mute, and you’ll get the message you see in the image above. Tap on the Mute option. As soon as you mute the status, it’ll disappear from the list of statuses. But, what if you muted the wrong one or changed your mind? Swipe all the way down, and you’ll see the Muted Updates option. Tap on the drop-down menu right above the pencil icon.
Here’s where you’ll see all the statuses you’ve muted, and they will also be greyed out. If you want to unmute one, long-press on it, and the unmute option will appear. Tap on it, and that specific status can be seen as usual.
How to View WhatsApp Statuses like a Ninja
You want to see what your friend shows off on his status, but you don’t want to appear on the Seen list. There’s a way around it, but there is one drawback. You can secretly view someone status by going to:
- Settings
- Account
- Privacy
- Toggle off read receipts
The other person won’t know you’ve seen their message or seen their status by turning off this option. The drawback is that you won’t be able to see if they’ve seen your message or status either. This setting doesn’t have to be forever. Just go back to Settings and enable the feature again to see whose seem your status.
How to Freeze WhatsApp Statuses
You can only view a status for a specific amount of time. You can see how much time is left at the top, but what if you want to look at it longer? Instead of having to tap on the status again, put your finger anywhere on the screen. By doing this, you freeze the status to look at it as long as you want to. As soon as you let go, the status will resume as usual.
How to Change the WhatsApp Font Style – No Apps Needed
If you find the default font style boring, you can always choose another one. The good news is that you don’t have to install a third-party app. Go and create a text status like you normally would and tap on the T to the left color palette.
Keep tapping on the T, and you’ll see a preview of what that font looks like. So far, you can choose from five different font styles.
How to Change Emoji and Text Color for Status
The emojis you can choose from are generally yellow, but that doesn’t mean you can’t change the color. For example, let’s say you want to add a red emoji that is apparently only available in yellow. Go to the Status tab and tap on the camera icon at the bottom right. Record a video or take a picture.
After taking the picture, you should see the emoji option at the top alongside other options. Add a yellow-faced emoji, and then tap on the pencil icon. All that’s left to do is choose the color, and you’re all set. You can also add filters to your pictures by swiping up on the Filters option.
If you record a video and it’s short enough, you’ll also see an option to turn your short video into a GIF right below the pencil icon. To change the color for text on the status, take a picture, tap on the T, and type out your message. You should see options for various colors to the right. Simply tap on the color you want the text to have, and the text color will change automatically—pinch-to-zoom on the text to change the size and twist it to the side to change the direction.
How to Block Your WhatsApp Status for Specific Contacts
You need to have certain people as a contact, for example, for work, but you don’t want them to see your status. You can block those contacts by going to:
- Settings
- Account
- Privacy
- Status
Under Status privacy, you’ll see options to only show your status to:
- My contacts
- My contacts except – Choose the people you don’t want seeing your status
- Only share with – Choose the contacts that will be the only ones that see it.
Choose the option that best fits what you want to do and tap on the Done button at the bottom.
How to See Whose Seen Your WhatsApp Status
Sometimes when you post something on WhatsApp, it’s a message towards a specific contact. To see if that contact saw your status, tap on the Status tab and tap on what you posted. As long as you’re here, if you tap on the dots to the right, you can also access options that’ll allow you to forward, share, or delete your status as well.
When the status plays, you’ll see an eye icon at the bottom with a number on it. That number represents the number of people that have seen your status. At first, you’ll only see a specific number of people that have seen it; swipe up to see the entire list.
Conclusion
As you can see, there is so much you can do on your WhatsApp status. More editing options when posting videos and pictures would be great, but hopefully, those will be added shortly. What other options would you like to see added to WhatsApp statuses? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
