Telegram Secure Video Group Calls Launch Timeline

Telegram Secure Video Group Calls Launch Timeline

Posted on June 2, 2020 by Mona 1 Comment

If you’re a social media enthusiast, you’re probably aware of how Telegram is taking the world by storm. Telegram is a cloud-based voice-over IP service and an instant messaging platform. It has made life easier by allowing people to send messages and photos as well as exchanging videos. Telegram is available for windows phones, macOS and Linux, and Android. The good news is that the brand has been focusing on making sure its users enjoy privacy at all costs, and this is where this article concerns.

Telegram Secure Video Group Calls Launch Timeline

Let’s review the secure video group calls Telegram announced to launch this year. Communication coming from Telegram Company officials indicates that the launching of secure video group calls will beat other features you’ve been enjoying with the app. Video group calls bring you security and ease of usability at once.

Telegram announced this news because when the brand reached 400 million users, they realized that their customers were wanting to see more services than what they’ve been offering. Best of all, the number of active users is expected to double within a short time with thousands of new members signing in daily.

How Zoom Affected the Telegram’s Secure Video Calls

If you’re familiar with tech trends, you probably have been using Telegram for some time, and have used Zoom for video-calls and video-conferencing. Telegram’s launch of its secure group, video calls, is attributed to the growing demand for video calls and Zoom’s security scandals in recent months.

Until recently, Zoom has been a top-rated source of virtual communication. Zoom’s popularity has been seen around the globe with users going for it for their classroom lessons, virtual nights out, and yoga classes. Even better, Zoom had recorded a name as one of the top-trusted platform used by big brands and governments in holding their daily meetings until recently when things started unraveling.

At the start, top security agencies warned about Zoom’s security default settings. As if that wasn’t enough, privacy advocates, lawmakers and computer security technicians also warned about Zoom’s security capabilities. Then, a top security researcher named Jonathan Leitschuh publicly disclosed that Zoom had a severe vulnerability with its video options able to be easily hijacked.

Zoom’s ability to conduct meetings relied on randomly-generated ID numbers that range from 9 to 11 digits. Participants use these numbers to gain access to discussions. Now, based on these numbers, researchers report that these IDs are easy to get or guess and are also vulnerable to hacking. With these numbers, anyone is able to get into company meetings to access private and personal information that can be used for cybercrimes.

Telegram’s Changes

As a result, Telegram was not alone in making adjustments to their products for security. According to Apple, Zoom’s privacy and security concerns forced them to step in and silently remove the software from their celebrated Macs computers. Then, when Telegram reached about 1.5 million users signing up daily, one of the most downloaded social apps around the globe, the company became more concerned about changing its software and making improvements beyond just the security.

They came up with new features aimed at improving communication within their app. Now, you can add content such as educational snippets and quizzes on the platform, which wasn’t an option before the changes. Users can browse over 20,000 stickers available on the forum. Even better, Telegram is adding new MacOs features for its clients.

Benefits of Telegram’s Video Calls

According to Telegram, the company’s decision to launch secure video calls in 2020 is also attributed to the current pandemic that highlights the need for trusted video communication. With Telegram’s videos, you’ll be able to enjoy the benefits of their advanced features and options, like the following:

It’s more engaging

Telegram has pointed out that participants in video calls don’t tend to zone out or multitask compared to audio and messaging conversations. With the videos, there is also virtual eye contact which translates to superior engagement levels. Telegram believes that when every participant is visible, a company or business is inclined to use communication skills that are suitable in face-to-face conversations to help members more clearly understand what’s being discussed.

It’s highly efficient

If you’re looking to skyrocket your business’s productivity, reduced communication time becomes one of the apparent benefits that video calls can bring you. You can quickly have important face-to-face communications with clients and suppliers without spending unnecessary time or money. Telegram knows that video calls are an excellent option for most businesses to save on costs. If you’re needing to meet with clients who are further away, it allows for professional solutions without paying for travel, transportation, or meeting rooms.

Technology offers great solutions, but it also poses some risks, especially when your data and privacy is not kept secure. We look forward to the solution that Telegram is offering. Usability and security is essential to your video call experience, and Telegram is working hard to provide that in their services.

Yeah, Telegram secured group video calls are good, however, they are mainly suited for casual and social interactions. For business video meetings and conferences, one can use tools like on premise R-HUB HD video conferencing servers, Webex, Gotomeeting, Zoom etc. These are easy to use and work well.
