Stop Getting Signal Notices Every Time a Contact Signs Up

Posted on January 20, 2021 by Judy Sanhz Leave a Comment

Notifications are there to help us. Without them, you would miss out on important things you need to know for work. Some notifications, such as the one Signal send when a contact of your joins, can wait.

If you get a notification every once in a while, then the notifications might not be annoying. But, sometimes, they can get a little out of hand and can be very distracting. This is especially true if you like to look at every notification to rule out nothing important. So, how can you disable Signal notifications when a contact joins?

How to Turn off New Joins on Signal

Telegram does the same thing. When one of your contacts joins the messaging service, you’ll get a notification letting you know. With Signal, things are no different. When someone on your contact list signs up for Signal, you’ll get a notification letting you know.

Some users like to be notified since they can know who they can start messaging on the app. But, other users prefer to look at their contact list to see whose using the messaging app.

To deal with fewer distractions and turn off his notifications, open Signal, and tap on your profile picture at the top-left of your display. That’s going to send you to Signal’s Settings. Now, go to Notifications.

At the very bottom of the options, you’re going to see the Contact joined Signal option.

That’s all there is to it. After disabling this feature, you’ll stop getting the notifications that one of your contacts joined Signal. The only way you’ll know from this point on if you have a contact on Signal is when you tap on the pencil icon to create a message.

If you ever change your mind and want to turn this option back op, you’ll only need to follow these exact same steps. Toggle the option back on, and you’ll start getting a notification when a friend or family member joins Signal.

Conclusion

Some users might think that the message you get when a contact joins Signal is something you can’t turn off. That it’s something, they’re going to have to deal with as long as they use the app. Let them know that that’s not true and share this tutorial with them to show them how easy it is to disable it.
