Meetings are a common part of work-life. But they take up time and mean that you may not be immediately available to deal with any problems or answer questions. Similarly, you might be stuck in traffic, for example, on your way to the office and able to access Slack on your phone and your email. But otherwise unable to access important documents or servers or anything.
Occasionally people get ill and can’t come to work; in some cases, you may be able to work from home but depending on your job and the illness, you may not. Remote working can be great for those people if your job allows it. However, if this is not common, people may waste time trying to find you to talk to in person at the office or waiting for you to arrive for the day. Every so often, you may even take a holiday and be uncontactable except in the worst of emergencies.
All of these examples fit the default status options that Slack provides. As a workspace admin, you can change the workspace default status’ if you find that they don’t suit your needs or if something else would work better.
