How to Setup Netflix Watch Party

How to Setup Netflix Watch Party

April 14, 2020 by Mel Hawthorne Leave a Comment

Netflix’s new Party feature is a great way to share Netflix remotely. While account sharing is frowned upon and even against the T&Cs in some cases, the Netflix Party feature is one you can use to safely watch with others – everyone involved needs to have their own Netflix account though. If someone doesn’t have one, they can easily sign up for a free 30-day trial.

In order to use it, you need to install the Netflix Party App – and you need to use the Chrome browser to be able to do it. Go through the install process and add the extension to your browser. When you’re done, an NP symbol will appear next to your address bar (or other extensions you may have installed there already.

When that’s done, you can go to Netflix and queue up your video. Select whatever you want to watch – whether it’s a TV show or a movie. Pause it immediately so your party-buddies won’t miss the start, then click on the icon near your address bar.

Click the Start Party button – you’ll be presented with a link.

Share that link with your friends in order for them to be able to watch right along with you on their screens! They too will need to have Netflix Party installed in Chrome.

If you want to join a party instead of hosting one, click on the link the host gives you, and you’ll be taken to the Netflix homepage. Click on your NP icon, and you’ll automatically join the party!

Tip: In addition to being able to share videos, you can also use the Netflix Party app to share GIFs, screenshots, and emojis with your friends. You can customise your own nickname and even give a name to your party if you want!

To end a party as a host, back out of the video you are watching and close your tab. If you are a guest and want to stop participating, you can just close the tab you’ve been watching on.
